I think we were talking about something like this about a referendum vote for shall issue, but maybe this is what we really need to be shooting for: http://www.mdconvention.org/index.html
The intent of this site is to enlighten Marylanders of a rare event.

The Constitutional Convention for the State of Maryland.

Every 20 years, a question is included on the voters ballot (among other issues, and candidates, appearing on that ballot). This question should appear on the November 2, 2010 ballot.

This question is there to get "the sense of the People" in order to determine whether to have such a Convention, or not.

If a majority of the voters vote YES on this question (which is indeed "the sense of the People"), then the legislature must proceed, at its next Session, to uphold the state constitution, specifically addressing this Article XIV, Section 2, and set in motion the means to create, support and follow through with the Convention, its processes and its results.

What is likely the most important part of all this, to the People, is that any presented legislation to change or amend the existing Constitution, which may be adopted by the Convention, will be put on the ballot for the People to vote upon.

Please be sure to study this Article XIV, Section 2 of our State Constitution. A link will be provided here, but can also be found on our Links page.

It is believed this is the tool, and the only time (every 20 years), that the People can use to actually bring about effective change in our State Government.

Be careful what you wish for. Knowing how politics works in this state, this convention could be hijacked and used by the current administration to push an agenda that is unpopular, unethical, or even unconstitutional.

"Well, more gun control is what the people want, so that's what we must do."

Yeah, but if the convention happens it is going to happen, then we should really prepare for it. Sure it could be hijacked by others, but if we start now we will have two years to control what happens and maybe work the public towards our way of thinking. I doubt the majority of the public really wants any more gun control laws and it is the public that has to vote for whatever is proposed as I understand it (see below in the quote)

Oh damn, if I only had a few million dollars to spend on a public information campaign I would do it. Making MD shall issue to save lives and let people protect their families should be paramount.

Besides, this administration pretty much has a stranglehold on the GA anyway so anything they want they kinda get. So what worse could they do with a Constitutional convention? Chances are they fear one, especially one if a group or two has been spending two years educating the public on a certain issue or two they don't like.
Also, we might have a new administration for the 2011 session.

SEC. 2. It shall be the duty of the General Assembly to provide by Law for taking, at the general election to be held in the year nineteen hundred and seventy, and every twenty years thereafter, the sense of the People in regard to calling a Convention for altering this Constitution; and if a majority of voters at such election or elections shall vote for a Convention, the General Assembly, at its next session, shall provide by Law for the assembling of such convention, and for the election of Delegates thereto. Each County, and Legislative District of the City of Baltimore, shall have in such Convention a number of Delegates equal to its representation in both Houses at the time at which the Convention is called. But any Constitution, or change, or amendment of the existing Constitution, which may be adopted by such Convention, shall be submitted to the voters of this State, and shall have no effect unless the same shall have been adopted by a majority of the voters voting thereon (amended by Chapter 99, Acts of 1956, ratified Nov. 6, 1956).

He has his choice of either taking Mikulski's job or staying put as Governor for another term. If he goes to the Senate then either Smith or Sheila Dixon will become Governor.

Approval ratings are meaningless. Bush has one of the lowest approval rating of any President ever, but if he was running today he would probably get reelected

I think maybe we should start mentioning this to Senator Miller as a way to end Frosh's and other committee chairs' ability to block bills. If there are even rumblings about a MD Constitutional Convention because of Frosh being an *******, then maybe he will finally pressure Frosh to allow SB420 out of committee to quiet the masses some.

Yea and if enough people wake up between now and when this would take place it could really go in a positive direction. Just think how many of the long standing idiots we might be able to get rid of in the next election..... However, historically I can't say I'm real impressed with the attention people pay to who they vote for in this state. If it happens it could be a huge game changer.

Just a hint of a Constitutional Convention can make things go in a positive direction.

This is very good leverage for our "cause". On the national level we (Md.) would also carry weight with electoral votes, etc.

We need some Constitutional Scholar to talk to us about this. The will of the people would FORCE these buzzards to finally make us shall issue. Like someone else's thread, the left has been good at coordinated attacks for decades, it's time to flip this!

It can apply to more than JUST Guns. Think balanced budget requirements, no ability to increase borrowing and defect spending, capping property taxes and income taxes and the Maryland Capital gains rates. Even abolishing the personal income tax in Maryland and going to a sales tax / property tax only state like Texas, Florida, or Nevada. Pro-business environments and ending needless regulation, all by the will of the people, NOT the will of the legislatures!
