Dumb question, but I’m assuming the “baffle container” at the end of the maxim 50 is not user-serviceable?

Given the Maxim 50 is $450 right now, I have one on the way. It arrives Saturday. I know absolutely nothing about muzzleloading. I have some Blackhorn 209 and Federal 209A primers on the way. I got a couple boxes each of the recommended projectiles. Also got the scope mount and cheek riser they recommended. Also got an extra loading tube as recommended in a different thread.

My question is this: What do y'all recommend as good resources for learning about muzzleloading? (books, websites, forums, magazines) My use will be for plinking and deer hunting.

Anything else I should know or acquire? What height rings would you recommend? I typically use Warne rings for most of my rifles. My guess would be high. What do you think? The OP saw some of the "moderator" in his sight picture. I might be able to live with that, but would rather not unless it makes the rifle unwieldy.

    Jesus, they're $450 now? Wow.

That's in the neighborhood of being worth it. The original $1000 price was bonkers.

Hmph. At that price, it would almost be worth it to get one, get the ATF paperwork, and repurpose the can.

Can is welded on. You’d have some work to do removing it and keeping it in servicable condition. Probably would be cheaper to buy a new can.

Damn. I wish I had a little more money right now. That is almost silly money cheap. If they are still that price next summer I may need to pick one up to try out for next ML season.

I missed early ML but I'll be using the Maixum hopefully during firearms season.

Took it out to verify scope and just needed a couple clicks of left since last year.
I"m still using 100grains of BH209 under the Federal Premium B.O.R LOCK MZ Lead 350grain bullet
