-I've had a long love affair with the Springfield M1922, which IMHO is the finest .22 trainer ever built. Many years ago I added an early M1922 that was updated to M1 configuration to the collection. These rifles have never been cheap, they're that popular. If I remember correctly I paid around $1150 for mine nearly 20 yrs ago. So when they come up for auction I always bookmark them just to keep track of the market
-Two weeks ago a M1922 M2 pops up in an auction search. It's the estate of an ex Rolls Royce aero engineer who, from the online-only auction catalog, only bought the best and kept it in pristine condition. From mid-Century Danish furniture to about a dozen rifles, mostly Mausers.
-The M1922 was immaculate but I figured it would sell for market which these days is in the mid to high teens. So I was shocked to see weak bidding the night that the lots closed. So I threw an el-cheap-o bid at it, figuring I was either gonna get it for a fantastic price or shelled out. Damned if it didn't close on my high bid amount. Fine by me!
-No SN listed and they've yet to ship so I don't know the manufacturing date. But the M2 started production in 1933, ending in '42 with 11,171 total. Can't wait to see it in the flesh, hopefully next week. Really crisp auction photos for now.

You have the prettiest collection of .22 trainers that I've ever seen. Ok, maybe the only collection, but I'm jealous nonetheless.

Very nice Mawkie, mind posting or PMing the SN. Be happy to see if there's a record to it at NARA.

    Gorgeous as always!

My Savage Enfield had one of those 1907 slings on it when I got it, but the poor thing was dry-rotted to the point there was no saving it. That one looks like it's been kept in nice condition.

It's a recent vintage sling, made by a Cumberland Ohio based company under the Shields name. Word is they used to set up a table at Camp Perry and sell their slings to competitors. Never owned one before but from what I've read online they get excellent reviews. Comparable or better than Turner. Looks very nice from the photos.

She showed up today and is a beauty. Barrel dated to May 1942 and the finish is a deep zinc parkerizing. Looks like she spent a sheltered life.
Really impressed with the sling. They don't build 'em like this anymore.
    Some additional photos.
