The only semi-auto handgun Ruger needs to do a remake of, is the P-series. Those things were built like freaking tanks.

The Tupperware gun stuff has been done to death, IMO.

I have a few more but I didn't want to show off... P series "R" guns make great crab mallets in the summer... clear it... beat crab claws and enjoy... wipe it off... reload... back in service... no muss... no fuss... :innocent0

Hell, I wouldn't doubt it. My uncle managed to mangle his guide-rod/recoil spring at a IDPA match many years ago - apparently a day of shooting +P+ rounds will do that. Replaced the spring/guide-rod, it was visually none the worse for wear.

There's something to be said for a pistol with a metal frame. (Admittedly, the P90 I am familiar with has the grip-ergonomics of a 2x4.)

The grip on the P345 is about the most ergonomic grip of the bunch... virtually identical to my S&W Sigma 9...

When Bill, Sr. was still around, there was a slow time. So Ruger engineers took a P-89, internal threaded the muzzle end of the barrel. They screwed a plug into the muzzle and fmounted the pistol in remote fixture. From the protection bullet proof glass equipped observation room, they remotely fired as many rounds as the barrel would allow to stack up. They disassmbled the pistol, inspected the pistol and found no damage. They extracted the bullets, reassembled the pistol without the plug in the barrel and fired a whole mag of ammo through the pistol. Back to normal. They were excited and went to tell Bill, Sr. about the test. Bill’s response was along the lines of, “I told you I built that pistol strong. Now quit playing and go back to work...”

Here's what I don't get about Ruger; all of these lines of semi-auto 9mm pistols. There's the Ruger American, the SR series, and now we have a Security 9. Why? And this is in addition to the concealed carry and 1911 niche pistols.

My uncle still has his P90, freaking tank.
Still have my P90 as well. Just put Hogue rubber grips on it this summer, feels like a brand new pistol. Had it since ‘94, never had a single malfunction, ever. Was my 1st handgun purchased, and still one of my most accurate pistols. Still big & clunky, and rattles way too much by today’s standards but I “can’t quit” it....There’s nothing I can do to shoot it poorly. With (# withheld) pistols to choose from in my stable, this is still my primary HD handgun.

I have a question about this new Ruger. If it's based on the LCP then it's a hammer fired model with the hammer concealed... How does that compare with the normal striker fired system? What advantage is there vs a Glock striker.

the fact it is hammer fired is a desirable feature. Primarily because the resistance the slide encounters against the hammer holding it in battery longer (more dwell time) before unlocking begins to occur. This can yield more efficient operation and potentially better accuracy. All factors the Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm pistols lack and need.

Comment was made on the number of semi auto pistols Ruger is producing...ever look at S&W’s lineup? As need is noticed in the product lineup they produce a pistol. Same a producing the Redhawk when the Super Blackhawk was there for a couple decades alreeady.

I love Ruger revolvers and respect the P Series semis. That said, I see no reason to buy a plastic handgun that isn't a Glock. I understand that companies will keep making them and waiting for a hit but it won't be with my money.
