MPDC oficers as canvassers??? Huh??

Wife is telling me that Mayor Bowser is having MPDC officers to be required to pass around a petition "about homelessness", that collects various personal information from the signees. Supposedly it's about community engagement, but it smells funny.

Apparently Chief Lanier is against it, though it's not really clear.

Anyone??

I noticed she answered the question as to whether officers are collecting signatures with, "no officers have signed"...
