Baltimore Sun is reporting GOP gained 2 seats in the MD State Senate, lost some seats in the House.

Chris West and Mary Beth Carozza seem to have won their respective bids but unless something radical happens, it looks like Gail Bates may have been defeated! We DID NOT need that! So right now it seems like a net gain of one Senator!

Tim Robinson lost while Michele Guyton won. Embarrassing for 42B. Michele is a dyed in the wool gun hater.

I couldn't believe how many Guyton signs I saw in my bumpkin area. She must have deeper connections around here than I realized.

    Willingly is right

So instead of Larry pulling us right he pulled us farther left? Is that correct? Since it’s a net loss for the gop in md?

Yes because it’s all the Governors fault.....

What I REALLY wish would happen would be for (a) Supreme Court case/s (Reynolds v. Sims and/or Baker v. Carr) to be revisited and for each of the State Senates to be divided by either region or County! This would give greater autonomy to the rural areas!

Really makes you wonder why these blue utopias don't just do that and self govern and give us a situation like Illinois where restrictions only apply by county. They'd be met with so much less opposition and brothers trapped in shitty counties wouldn't have to swallow such a big pill in terms of distance.

But that'll all never happen. It involves giving up too much control.

I wonder how many "new voters" there were during early voting and availed themselves of same day registration. And I wonder what percentage of them were legit.

The early voting session was slammed, and a judge I spoke with who worked it said it slowed the process but more importantly invites mistakes. She said the Constitutional amendment question to allow same day registration on election day is a terrible idea. She seemed really troubled by it. Since then, it passed, overwhelmingly.

Bye bye, to what was left of Maryland. The stage is set. Democracy only works if it's understand, respected, and protected. It's not. All that matters is power, however obtained.

Lawn chair Larry’s the one moving left, the average Marylanders want the state to move to the left so they , hundreds of thousands of md Democrats, were more than glad to vote for his moving md to the left.

And some reps, like deb ray, who voted for those anti gun and anti constitutional bills to lay cover for lawn chair Larry’s move to the left suffered for it and that is a shame

So yes, it’s lawn chair Larry’s fault imo, he chose to pose as a Republican and to move md farther left

I’m not going to defend Hogan but I wont go as far and say it’s his fault. The bottom line is that demographically Maryland had ALWAYS been Left of center and it’s now moving further left. The population is moving with or without the governor.

At this point my feasible goal as a Marylander is to at least keep the state from electing candidates with an open policy wealth redistribution, until I can leave.

Whoever those candidates are, they are going to be more RINO than republican if they have ANY shot at being elected. So I can continue to vote RINO and keep my money, or I can not vote and take part in funding the great socialist experiment weather I like it or not.

Regarding the 2A, there will never ever be any politician elected in central Maryland or statewide election, who openly supports 2A rights until the public at large supports the 2nd amendment.

I’m convinced that in this state voters just vote yes may I have another.

I don’t think most people think about these things before voting.

    1) Why do we need same day registration?
    2) Who is impacted by not being able to register on Election Day?
    3) What could possibly go wrong or how could this be abused?

Other than the small minority that turn 18 on Election Day or become legitimate residents on Election Day, which I suspect is a small number percentage wise, I don’t see the need for it.

The potential abuse of it is alarming. Is there anything stopping out of state voters from voting in their state and then registering and voting in Maryland after such a change? Could required proof of residency be easily met?

One person on FB voted yes because he felt lazy college students who don't bother to register in the 2 years leading up to an election shouldn't lose their right to vote.

Which is why in my initial piece I knew this was going to be a major battle and that we needed to pull out all stops to make sure our allies were victorious! Gail Bates' opponent is also a gun-hater as are Alice Cain (winning the seat Herb McMillan vacated), Courtney Watson (defeating Bob Flanagan), Brian Crosby (defeated Deb Rey) and Ken Kerr (defeated Bill Folden). I don't know anything about Harry Bhandari (defeated Joe Cluster) nor Steve Johnson (who is 19 votes ahead of Glenn Glass right now).

I couldn't believe how many Guyton signs I saw in my bumpkin area. She must have deeper connections around here than I realized.

These leftists in recent times have gotten more aggressive and have been able to encroach into the outlying areas in recent years. I'd like to know what the hell they know! Is it because of all the recent massacres as to why people have turned to the Democrats; even in the remote areas? Are the elections being 'cooked'? Is it because the GOP wasted too many resources trying to oust one good guy in favor of a 'lesser' friend (Senate D. 29)?

I remember seeing all those signs saying 'Vote For The Democrats' all over the place. Well, the GOP needed to counter that effort by coming up with its signs with a counter message. One that I like would've said "If the Democrats win, you LOSE!

Has anyone else besides myself notices that over the last few election cycles there have been more glitches than before?!?! And with early voting only more headaches will result? Y'know, I think the next election we need to ask for provisional ballots! Get rid of the optical scan machines (uniless someone knows something I don't)!

I've used absentee ballots for years, ever since computerised voting machines came in. Always seemed to me to be terribly insecure, and I have no doubt that there have been significant hacks.

Of course, in Maryland the election results go out long before the paper ballots are counted. In other states, boxes of pre-filled ballots await the need to drag them into the fray to tip the balance in the right (left?) direction.

Yes. The bottom line is that they're just introducing all sorts of new ways to cheat and undermine democracy while achieving next to nothing, if anything positive for people's rights.

It's like a campaign to make people think they're improving something, but they're making it worse. And they're "insiders" who know the vulnerabilities, or should .

It's already easy to cheat, at various levels in the process. It relies a lot on honor and integrity, which is in shorter and shorter supply these days . Anybody who tells you otherwise doesn't know or is lying.

I don’t know about other areas but in the “remote” areas like 29 we like our reps not to vote anti gun or anti constitution and we like them to fight instead of worrying about getting re-elected

It’s a shame about Steve and deb but the gop should see it as a lesson learned

I hated seeing her win but, other than 2A, Tim sucked. He was very uninvolved and Northern Baltimore County business community viewed him as a clown.

I was disappointed with the two amendments passing. As usual, the low intelligence voters checked yes because if our leaders (massahs?) suggest it, it must be good. The "lock box" is pointless. Same day registration is just laying the groundwork for future cheating.
