One of the things about collecting C&R-Type firearms is that you’ll eventually have a ton of different calibers if you amass a wide-array of arms. I was bored so I figured I’d do a little count of how many I owned. I came up with 55 different calibers! Makes for a heck of a storage situation, and a headache if you try and reload for some of the super-obsolete cartridges like I do.

So, how many do you have?

Keeping in mind that there are different loadings for certain calibers, this is what I've got

    .22 LR
    .357 (both .38 spl, and .357 mag)
    .40 S&W
    .44 Mag
    .45 ACP

    25-06
    30-30
30-06 (I realize 30-30 and 30-06 are the same caliber, but considerably different cartridges)
    8mm
45-90 (same applies for 45-70, which can also be fired from this gun)
    20 ga
    12 ga

I'm at 19 for now. My problem is I have calibers for guns I no longer own. I should probably sell the remaining boxes I no longer have a gun for.

30-06 (I realize 30-30 and 30-06 are the same caliber, but considerably different cartridges)
    ...

Not to mention that M1 Garand 30-06 is lower pressure than most current production 30-06.

Wow, that's impressive! How long did it take you to acquire a collection like that, if you don't mind me asking?

I've just started looking into C&R (I've always been a history buff, but a friend has inspired me to look into it more seriously), but would probably start with some of the big ones. My initial wish list is an M1 Garand, Lee-Enfield (ideally a No. 4 Mk I), Kar 98k and a Mosin. Once I have that, I'll probably move to some pistols. I'm figuring 1-2 per year, keep in the wife's good books. Haha.

55???? that's just damn impressive. Do you have shootable ammo for each caliber?

Some of them I do, others I just have examples of old surplus ammo. Most of the really old obsolete stuff like .42 Berdan I still need to get components and dies for to make the ammo myself.

For example, I make 8mm French Ordnance Revolver ammo from scratch by cutting down and resizing .32-20 cases. That process is a heck of a lot easier than making 8x58r Krag from .45-70 or 11.15 Werndl from .348 Winchester.
