    I must be an oddball.
I actually pefer to use 20 rd AR mags as opposed to 30's for general shooting and plinking around.
I think the only reason I even have any 30's is because "the man" doesen't want me too.

    I agree.

The ammo I use mostly, PMC and Prvi, come in 20 round boxes. A 20 round mag is easier when shooting from a bench as well. I also do not have to worry if I want to be nice to another shooter and give them one of my 20 round mags.

Same reasoning here. I buy 30s elsewhere because I can't buy them here. Forbidden fruit syndrome, I guess. I've got a bunch of nice 20-round military-issue Vietnam-era Colt mags that I like to use instead, though.

How about selling and shipping a hicap magazine to someone out of state, like PA?

I just sold my firearm that I have mags for, but of course couldn't include them since I sold gun here in MD.

The only time I had problems shipping magazines were the Penthouses I had shipped to me while in Baghdad--no probs with Maryland but those Muslim countries are a little sensitive.............:lol2:

    Exactly.

I have a bunch of Havana Club rum that if I don't finish before we normalize relations with Cuba will be nothing to me, and I'll likely Karma them here.

As Homer Simpson might say, "mmmmm forbidden rum".

Are unloaded or disassembled (kits) mags prohibited in a carry on?

    From TSA:
Parts of guns or firearms '
    Carryon Checked Bag

    No------------- Yes

If TSA thinks it's a gun part, it's not going on the airplane if it's in your carryon., even if it's dissembled.

No one mentions "re-build kids". As far as I, and many people can tell, its not a magazine until its fully assembled. Plenty companies will ship a mag disassembled and you can do out of state to put it together. IANAL, but if it is just parts being shipped, it is not a mag, and therefor not regulated. You are allowed to buy parts for magazines of any size, but it is still not legal to assemble/manufacture in MD, that's why you have to leave to be legal. That leaves the whole "assemble out of state" part to the honestly of the owner....

Would it be legal for me to go to a free state and buy some 30 round magazines, and then UPS them to myself in maryland?

As above question is written, NO. If you're already there (out of state), why woud you want to "ship" them to yourself in MD??? It's legal to bring them in for your PERSONAL use.

Is it legal for somoone to move into maryland and have their household goods delivered, if their household goods contain 30 round magazines?

    Again, NO.

Didn't see the posts in question, but I can imagine what they may have been. Good job.

SUBTITLE 3. ASSAULT PISTOLS AND DETACHABLE MAGAZINES

Md. CRIMINAL LAW Code Ann. § 4-305 (2012)

    § 4-305. Detachable magazines -- Prohibited

    (a) Scope of section. -- This section does not apply to a .22 caliber rifle with a tubular magazine.

    (b) Prohibited. -- A person may not manufacture, sell, offer for sale, purchase, receive, or transfer a detachable magazine that has a capacity of more than 20 rounds of ammunition for a firearm.

    HISTORY: An. Code 1957, art. 27, § 36H-5(b); 2002, ch. 26, § 2.

You may not "receive" a magazine with a capacity of more than 20 rounds. So if you ship yourself a magazine, as soon as you receive that package, you're breaking the law. If someone brings your household goods to your house when you move, as soon as you "receive" those goods, you're breaking the law.

If you want a hi-cap mag, you need to carry it yourself over the line.

One thing I'm NOT clear on is the situation where you BUY magazines online and then travel to the free state to actually pick them up. When dealing with Internet sales, does the transaction legally occur in the state of the seller??

And even if so, is the seller effectively "offering for sale in MD" if they knowingly complete a transaction with someone in MD?

I haven't dealt with the Industry Partner someone linked to but I have read good things about them.

I've dealt with them. Very pleasant, helpful, and knowledgable. Even offered to stay open late so I could pick up some things after work. How much more accomodating can you want?;) I would certainly do business with them again.

Yes and no. Assuming the seller is out of state, it's interstate commerce, which the MD magazine law does not have jurisdiction over as long as you do not receive (take possession of) the mags in MD.

It can be iffy if you're able to purchase the mags online from a retailer that also has a presence in MD. You'll probably be charged MD sales tax, which technically means the purchase was made between two parties within MD. But the transaction is not legally complete until you take possession. When you go out of state to take possession, it becomes either an out-of-state transaction or interstate commerce, again meaning that MD magazine law does not have jurisdiction.

Totally agree. I ship 20 round magazines to myself whenever i need because they match the average box of ammunition. Even buying bulk ammo they come in 20 round boxes within the shipping container.

That said i have a few(6 about to be 10) 5.56 30rd magazines that i keep loaded here at the house. These are using a coupler to have dual magazines ready. Why? Home defense. the 20 round magazines i take to the range for free fire and ease of loading, the 30 round mags i have labeled and marked for explicit uses and conditions.

Bottom Line to this original post:

You cannot ship 30rd mags into Maryland without going to an FFL. So drive 2 hours north to Cabelas in PA or 2 hours west to Cabelas in WV. There you can buy as MANY 30rd magazines you wish or can afford.

Personally i try to make a Cabela's run to PA at least once a quarter. The wife, 1 year old, and I enjoy the drive up there. The food up there is great in the cafe(Venison Brats woo), and i can get many shooting accessories with the many discount offers they have.

Poor me. I recently purchased a NIB Steyr AUG A3. Steyr's standard mags are either 30 round or 42 round, so when I got the gun, it was sent without any mags whatsoever. Just a gun in a box.

Steyr mags seem to be hard to find. I'm going to try the Industry Partner Thundersticks. As it stands, unless I can find a store close to Maryland to go to and get them, I have a basically worthless bullpup. I sent an e-mail to the guy in Fawn Grove, but he must be pretty busy as I haven't heard back.

I didn't see an answer to this question... I have some mags I wanted to sell online but is that legal to do and ship to another state that allows them??
