I have a Thompson Auto Ordnance 1911 I bought in the early 1990s. At that time, I put tritium night sights on it, but they've been through almost three half lives, so they're very dim now. Time for new ones!

Here's my problem. I have no idea what size sights to get. 1911 sights come in all different sizes depending on who manufactured the pistol, and Thompson is never listed as a size.

There are three basic types of sights put on 1911's today. The original GI dovetail rear and swaged tenon front, inletted rear dovetail sight with dovetail front, then adjustable sights in several different configurations. The "inletted" rear dovetails come in a few different dimensions depending on the independeng pistolsmiths who developed and marketed them.

No matter what pattern you have measurements of the top of the front and rear sights to the top of the slide would be a starting point. These measurements and a pic of the slide and sights would certainly be a good starting point. Or simply go to a gunsmith or 1911 pistolsmith.
