Hey All. I've found this axehead a while ago. If it had a company name/logo before it doesn't now. I've tried local hardware stores but can't seem to find a handle that will fit. Anyone point me in the direction of a handle that will fit? Thanks

I wish you luck in finding the right shaft for your axe-hole.

You could also find a shaft that is close to the right size. Then lube up the head of the shaft a lot and you can probably get it jammed in to the axe hole. Go slow, apply continuous pressure and some hard thrusts and it should go in.

If it still won’t fit, you might have to whittle the head of the shaft a bit before jamming it in the axe hole. As a courtesy, remember to jam a wedge in to the head of the shaft once you have it in the axe hole. Otherwise the first time you use it you’ll go all to pieces.

Looks like firefighting pick-head ax. Most older ones the handle was split at the top and would have a metal shim in the center to help hold it in place. You could try a fire supply store or modify a new handle that is oversized to fit.

Soak the finished ax in a bucket of water to swell the wood when repaired.

Far better to soak both ends in boiled linseed oil. This will help keep the head on more permanently than water and help rustproof the head. Soak the other end to help prevent splitting of the handle.
