    CZ 97 Review - NSFW

I subscribed to this guy's YT channel a few weeks ago and it's the gift that just keeps on giving. While definitely NSFW, I find his reviews to be realistic and very informative. I've had several folks tell me that if I shot a CZ-97, I'd never want to shoot a 1911 again. Really? It's not like I own a bunch of 1911's but, the two I have serve my purposes very well.

I think that deserves a caveat. I'll take a cajunized CZ-97 over a lot of 1911s, not all. The stock 97 doesn't come anywhere near a decent 1911 and I'm a CZ fan.

Dan and I from the gun shop were just talking yesterday about snagging two 97BDs the next time they are available from the distributors--they don't come up that often. I will likely Cajunize it like the rest of my collection.

And that's really the only reason I haven't jumped on the CZ-97 bandwagon. What kind of turnaround time factor does CGW have right now? I know it varies depending on the time of year.

I would say their turnaround averages about 1 month. But given I do the work myself and it only takes about 2 hours unless I'm going to polish parts that doesn't get in the way of my decisions. The Omega series is a bit easier to work on but I tell you those damn sear cages in the 97 Compact and full-sizes can be quite the b!tch.

Looking forward to seeing pics of your Phantom. That's one I've had on the backburner for awhile.

What's the new one you got?

Shadow 2. All Shooters Tactical had one in stock. Since they didn't have and couldn't get a Ruger GP100 in 10mm and they had the S2 in stock, I put the S2 on lay away.

Nice. I think you'll be impressed the first time you take it to the range.

The Shadow 2 shoots well without a whole lot of effort. I see that some owners are converting them to SAO and installing a flat trigger for even better performance but I honestly don't see how you could make a Shadow 2 shoot much better than the way it comes from CZ. They did a great job with it.

This is my 15 yard target from last Saturday using Fiocchi 115gr FMJ. I basically mag-dumped the whole box of ammo to see what it would do and then went back to shooting a new HK VP9SK. I can't really shoot any handgun much better than that at that distance.

When I pick it up this afternoon I'm going straight to the range to try it out. I have 200 rounds of Blazer 9mm in my backpack.

I didn't get to the range yesterday, but I did pick up the new Shadow 2. I also found a .22 LR rifle with a squirrel on it that I'm picking up on Saturday for $65. No pics of that. Here's the Shadow 2 with my Phantom an P-07. The SP-01 is under construction so I'll post that later.

What are you doing withe the SP01? I put the Cajun Gun Works Pro Package and fiber optic sights, and Lok thin bogies grips. Nice little gun I want to try in USPSA in the fall...

I have one on the way back from CGW now so I can give you the dates that I experienced.

5/22 - Added to wait list
6/21 - Contacted to send in gun
8/13 - Contacted to ship gun back

So close to 3 months from getting put on list to getting gun back

I was using it for 3-gun. I'm not impressed with the stock sights so I swapped them out and managed to bugger up the slide. I'm trying a rail mounted optic to see if I really screwed it up. I may switch to the Open equivalent and just shoot this with an optic.

If I go back to pistol shooting in USPSA, I will use the Phantom and shoot Production. I like the decocker better than trying to completely lower the hammer on the SP01.

Does a pic of Applehd firing one of my CZ-52's converted to 9mm at last weeks' Hooligan Shoot qualify for CZ Porn?

    I think so...

All day long! How difficult was it to convert to 9x19?

Not difficult. I built my 9mm conversion on a complete frame I picked up on GB for ~ $50. I bought a 9mm conversion barrel from AIM pretty cheap when they had them. (Good luck finding either now for what I paid 10 years ago.)

Once I had the basics, I got the upper parts I needed (slide, rollers, springs etc) at a gun shop while on a trip to FL.

Finding the right mags to reliably feed 9mm vs. 7.62x25 required some testing. The pistol loves my reloads and is a great addition to my collection. It will send the empty cases into orbit like a CZ-52 should.

The 9mm conversion scratches my itch to shoot a CZ-52. That way I can save my stash of surplus 7.62x25 ammo for my other '52's.

    :)

Finally got the Shadow 2 to the range today. First mag, bottom left flyer was the first one where I flinched.

The Shadow 2 is impressive to say the least. Such a smooth shooter. My grandfather tried it out as well and was thoroughly amazed. Absolutely love this thing.

I was seriously thinking about one of them, the price tag is a little higher than im used to spending on a new pistol. I did find a place where i could get them in the low to mid 900's and have shipped.
