Best way to repair a butt plate stripped screw hole in a Garand stock?

    The toothpick and Elmers glue did not work.

    I need it to get tight enough to suck the butt-plate up tight to stock.

    drilling it out and gluing a dowel in there is the way to go. Toothpicks are OK for door hinges but I think a Garand deserves a dowel!

    I would go the Walnut dowel route.
    I have found that wood golf ties work great for smaller holes.

    If tightening the screw up (in a hole with toothpicks glued in and properly dried) to pull the buttplate down tight caused a blowout, maybe the problem is really the buttplate. The first hole blew out too, right?
