Post photos of your jungle carbine and I'll post some of the one that I just got. It's definitely got that "been there and done that" look ... but it probably has.

As for the Star B issues with mags, that's a long and detailed story, but in most cases (pun intended) they work better with steel-cased ammo like TulAmmo. Brass-cased ammo doesn't work as well in most Star Bs. The short explanation is that brass cases are slippery against each other and move out of column easily in the Star B mags. The rougher steel-cased ammo tends to stay stacked in column better.

Yeah ... you'd think that the more expensive ammo would work better, but not in this case.

To keep this thread from becoming about Enfield Ill try to find the old "Enfield Porn" thread.

    Are 124 grain bullets OK?

My Star B loves brass cases, but do I need to stick with 115 grain bullets, or is it ok to shoot 124 grain bullets as well?

Like most, my star b hates brass cases ammo most of the time. It likes the cheap steel cased stuff.

I just picked up some of the federal aluminum cased 115gr. Anybody have any luck with that in their star b?

I have a 1945 Star B. Shot it at Freestate range about two weeks ago. That was the first time I had fired it and it worked great for about 50 rounds until the pin that holds the extractor in place worked itself up and the extractor and spring disappeared some ware in the range. I couldn't find it and I asked them to be on the lookout for it but so far no luck. Any one know where to find a replacement extractor and spring that fits the Star 'B'? Right now it's just a very expensive paperweight.

    Try Numrich Gun Parts.

    Try Numrich Gun Parts.

Can't help on the pin, but a friend recommended Gunsprings CZ-75 extractor springs as a replacement.
I just received three, and have replaced the one in one of my Star Bs yesterday.

Slightly longer, but diameter is perfect.
Manually cycled several snapCaps, and the extractor seemed to perform normally.
Will know more after a trip to the range, but everything seems positive so far.
I always put a small amount of blue thread locker on the top portion of the pin before fully seating it in the slide.
This was after I caught one of mine just about ready to let fly like yours did.

    Details are:

Follow up on using the CZ spring in a Star Model B.

This particular Star has a history of extract issues, and has never been able to perform reliably with more then 5 rounds in the magazine, no matter which of the many magazines I use.
Even with five rounds, I can usually count on two out of five magazines worth having an issue.

I only shoot brass cased, and recoil springs have all been replaced with Wollf Gunsprings replacements upon receipt of each pistol.

Today, I shot 75 rounds, using two different mags.

Absolutely flawless performance. Zero issues with either magazine. Casings were dropping several feet over my right shoulder, where in the past, as often as not, they would land on top of my head. It is as if it is a brand new gun.

Now I need to swap out the other two guns as well.

    Good gouge...
Did you shorten the CZ75 extractor spring or install as-is?

    As-is.

Dimensionally, the diameter is almost a perfect match, but the length is visually so far off that you would expect to have to shorten the new spring.
But, as recommended by the originator of the idea, I changed nothing.

When it worked well with the snap-caps, I was pretty sure that it was going to end well.

But I was really amazed today at the range.

So now, the other two have been swapped, and if I'm off tomorrow, I will see how they do.

Second Follow up report on CZ-75 extractor springs in a Model B.

The other two guns, each with a similar reliability history performed almost flawlessly.

Two guns, 150 rds of PMC 115 gr FMJ, 8 rds per magazine (Carry the remainder), intermixed magazine with no effort to pair magazines with specific guns.

One stovepipe on the first round with with my oldest, and most worn magazine, in my oldest, and most worn pistol.

After, and other then that, 149 perfect cycles.

With a small dab of blue thread lock at the top 20% of the extractor pin on re-installation, no movement of any of the pins trying to work out.

Make of it what you wish. But, for less then $10.00 including shipping, it's the best money I have put into these three guns.

Question Was the problem that the case was NoT being held onto long enough and it was letting go too soon? Sometimes early and causing the problem Or The case was being held onto too long and not letting go soon enough? All my Star B issues were fixed with after market mag.

My issues were like the feeding round popped out of the magazine lips too soon.

Hard to say. Prior to this I would almost always have a live round under the empty case, with the empty case about half way out of the chamber.
So to me, and I don't have a whole lot of experience in this, that would be the extractor letting go early.

In this single failure today, live round in chamber, empty casing pointing straight up.
