I think all the county parks have a fee. I have a season pass to them so that’s not a problem. I wasn’t sure about the pier at downs or off the rocks at ft Smallwood. I didn’t know how much catching actually happens there. But a bottom rig for perch might work if I can explain to them to not pull the rod until they get a hit.

Try Beechwood park .its on the magothy ,it’s free and it’s in Pasadena . It’s alright .i take my grand kids there . I would almost guarantee you will catch catfish and white perch. If tide is up may have to wade along the edge . Just getting your feet wet more or less. Lake Waterford catch bluegill/ sunfish. My grandkids are 10 and younger they have fun at both locations but I usually take them to beechwood.

Are you still allowed to fish Patuxent Ponds? Been a very long time for me, but it used to be full of stunted, starving sunfish, easy for kids to catch with #10-12 hooks and a fragment of worm.

I’m close to Lake Waterford. I remember having a blast when I was younger catching crappie with live minnows. I recall a particular day we fished around a fallen tree branch and literally caught 2 dozen in an hour. Any idea if those fish are still in there? I took my kids there to walk around pretty recently and the water looked pretty murky compared to what I remember.

I didn’t know about beechwood. I’ll check it out. Thanks!

There still fish in there but it is far from prime fishing. Seen bass and pickerel pulled out of there it is far and in between they used to stock it with trout.its had a lot of problems with fish dying off.you. An also try Patuxent wildlife refuge over by fort Meade. There’s a lake and couple ponds may be hard to fish with young ones. Probably very muddy right now. Ya lake Waterford in the 70s was fun. Heck we where even fishing and crabbing in Marley creek. I wouldn’t even put my line in that water now. Little bit of a ride Centennial lake in Howard ounty off 108 I haven’t been there in years but we used to catch fish there.

There's a pond at Kinder Farm Park, I've seen kids fishing at before. Back next to the bamboo.

Try Jonas Green State Park. It's right beside the Rt.450 bridge across the Severn from Annapolis. You can fish the Severn from the old Rt.450 drawbridge that has been turned in to a fishing pier.

Kinder Farm Park has fishing. Plus the kids can go to the 4H Barn to meet the cows, goats and the other farm residents. KFP has a huge playground.just in case the fish aren’t biting hat day.
