Does anyone know if MSP considers a muzzle brake the same as a flash supressor? Don't want to add too many "evil features" to my sbr. Thanks!

A pure muzzle brake is not a flash suppressor. Look out for the "combo brake/hider" muzzle attachments - those are a problem (since they are at least advertised as reducing flash).

Its technically called a "triple port muzzle brake" and it came standard on my POF 308 sbr. I think I'll just call Edwards down at MSP again, hopefully he will know.

Remember the legal definiton is if "it functions as a flash hider" it's a flash hider. You can call it whatever you want.

    Be careful. my .02

I'm in this camp. Even a suppressor is considered a flash hider.

I do have a question: Does your SBR have a folding stock?

No its not a folding stock. It came with a Magpul STR (which I LOVE!)

1 of 3 evils is expectable AFAIK

    No folding stock
    No flash hider
No grenade launcher attachment point on barrel?

I'm not an expert on the no-nos but, I think that's how it goes.

Found this on MSPs website so I think you're right:

With regard to short-barrel rifles included on the Handgun Roster, please note that a semi-automatic rifle with:

    1) an overall length of less than 29" and/or
    2) any two of the following:
    1. a folding stock;
    2. a grenade launcher or flare launcher; or
    3. a flash suppressor

My overall length is greater than 29inches so no issue there but I have an M203 I wanted to mount on it so if MSP considered my muzzle brake a flash hider I would have an illegal configuration. I'm gonna snap a pic of it and send it to the licensing division to have them verify what they think it is.

To my way of thinking, if it is sold to you as a muzzle brake, you should be good to go. But I wouldn't give the MDSP a reason to look too closely either.

    Good Luck!

I was just gonna email a pic of the muzzle brake off of google images and ask them what they thought. Predictably they'll tell me its an evil feature but you never know. I keep all my firearm configurations legal so I'm not worried about anyone knocking on my door.

I happened to be the first POF 308 SBR to come through MSP since they added SBRs to the handgun roster. Since it was not on their list yet my FFL had to ship it to them for inspection/molestation before they would give me the CLEO so they might already have a definitive answer for me.
