Picked up his 20 year old Savage BVSS-S in 220 Swift over the weekend. Rifle has had little use. Single shot long action, pre Accutrigger although what ever trigger is in it is adjusted to less than 1LB.
Have pretty high hopes for this one, should be an excellent shooter. Put an old Lyman 20X target scope on it, classic target scope, will take it out to the AGC this week and get it sighted in.

Got it out to the range today and it looks like it will turn out to be a shooter, found a load it likes, 37.8 grain IMR 4064, 53 grain Hornady Match HP, thats right around 3800 fps. Target at 100 yards, larger hole in center is 6 shots.
With some more trigger time and load development I think it will be a consistent 1 hole rifle.

great looking rifle and in the Swift, the Ruger 77 I have likes Sierra 52gr. HPBT
with 37.9 grs IMR-4064 seated out a little farther. Very nice varmint rifle.

There is a lot you can do to a pre-accutrigger Savage, I have a old MKII that I worked over and it's sweet now, stock everything, just a little work (and a beer can). I upgraded some trigger parts on my new MKII and it breaks about 1.25lbs now, just perfect for it's use. Good luck, that should be a varmint nightmare!

In my Ruger No.1 220 Swift, I tried H380 and IMR 4064 but the only one hole group came from H414. That is with a 55gr bullet. I load mine really long since it is a single shot.
