So what was the refinishing procedure?
I used kg gun kote. Everything came off except the front sight. The rear sight had a little surface rust underneath so I had to sand it down. I hit majority of the metal with 180grit by hand then finished with red scuff pad. I put 2-3 coats on with a cheapo hvlp, let it flash. Since the barreled action is 8ft long I baked it half at a time in the oven. ( my wife wasn't home)

Right. I think I paid around $80 some time ago for it. It's a good shooter tho with a good bore.

I don't think I could ever do it to a hex or any other surplus at that. Being that it was a 42' 91/30 in rough shape, I figured what did I have to lose.

Your rifle so you can do with it what you want but god lord you could of used a more original finish. Many moons ago I too desecrated a milsurplus and I still have it, I use it to remind myself never to do it again.
