There were two viable candidates. It absolutely wasn't Jealous.
Digging in your heels when strongly outnumbered never wins. There was a better choice on this issue alone, but many just can't come to grips it was.

WHAT!? Snappers are turtles too!

Back in the spring I moved one from the middle of the road to the side - he still wanted to fight, so I left him where he was.

I got 7 turtles out of the road this year....last year i got a snapper out of the middle of the road....kicked at him with my shoe....he tried to bite my toes...ungrateful...
