Veterans can get into Navy or Pentagon FCUs also

Yes, USAA and NFCU are great, definitely want to join if you are eligible, if nothing else immediate family can branch off of your accounts and use their own accounts down the road even if they are not military.

Is there a thread listing 2A-friendly and anti-2A banks all in one place?

If you're eligible look at USAA. They reimburse ATM fees and you can deposit checks with their mobile app.

I haven't needed a local bank in years. The only reason I can see is convenience for the rare occasions you need a bank check.
