Went to the range today and this happened: The Op-Rod on my South Korean Garand is coming out of its track when I load a full clip and push the bolt forward to strip off the first round.

Looks like it's slightly above where it should be. The bolt goes fully into battery. Once I get the Op-Rod set in place, all eight shots go off without a hitch. When I inserted another fresh clip and pushed forward, it did it again.

Worn out receiver? Worn out Op-Rod? Would pushing slightly up or slightly down on the bolt handle, when driving the bolt home, make a difference?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

It very likely is not bent (any more than it is supposed to be), but rather the tab on the end of the rod that holds it in the track is worn down and out of spec.

That is a primary wear point on Garands.

    Hooray Numbers!

Let me grab my measuring goodies.

    Thanks.

Me thinks it's time for a new one. My tab height is .076. Not seeing a number on the pic provided.

Actually your tab doesnt look that bad or terribly undersized. I'm not convinced thats the issue
You may be pulling it out of the track
When you pull the op rod back , pull straight back. If you pull back and up you can pull it out of the track.
Just make sure its not human error
Another possibility is worn receiver rail, not very common though.

If you are using calipers you cant get a accurate measurement, you need to use a micrometer

Tab/Lug Height: .320 to .317 (under .310 calls for rejection)
    Tab/Lug Thickness: .100 to .095
    Tab/Lug Width: .265 to .235
    Tab/Lug Hang .070 to .055

CMP item #CS106.....Op-Rod Exchange.....$75.00. Heck of a lot better than 360.

Will try and correct Human Error first.

Thanks to all for the help and guidance.

If you are able to pop it out during normal operation, it is not you, period.

Those are battle rifles, designed to operate reliably under the worst conditions. Coming lose when charging isn't normal, no matter how hard you pull.

    Repair or replace it.

Not trying to argue but you are incorrect.
A completely inspect op rod can dismount if you pull back and up, the more wear (still in spec) the tab has the easier it can dismount
Its a very common occurance for someone who isnt familiar with the Garand

Yeah, I have no idea what I'm talking about, even though I stock, sell and fix them professionally.
