Here is my recent addition to the collection. It's a Marlin 336SC in 35 Remington. Looks like the serial number puts it in the early fifties.

Congrats! Why do you want to remove it?
There are videos online which can help.
I have a tendency to disassemble and clean everything I aquire as well, but if it functions, I just leave a lever gun alone. Clean and lube what I can reach and that's all I usually do.

Same as you said, it was my first used gun purchase. It was more just to get familiar with the gun. I ended up just leaving it on and cleaned the magazine tube in place. Thanks for the advice!

A family member wants to know the value of a marlin 336 in 35 rem.
It is jm marked and if I researched the serial number correct it's a 1979 manufacture date. It's in very good to excellent condition, the blueing is really nice. The wood is also in very good condition. Interested in selling but need a price range and I am not a lever value guy.
I searched gunbroker and still can't nail down a price.
PM me if you would like with questions or post here also. I will answer what I can since it is in my grubby hands.:lol2:

I paid around $350 for mine, almost the same by the description last year, I believe its also a 79. Granted it was part of a package deal. Id say anywhere from $350 to $450 is about right depending on how fast you want to move it.

A couple years ago I put a Winchester '73 on my wishlist. I wanted a long octagon barrel (28ish...or more) in .44-40. I don't know enough about them to shop for an original, and I wanted it as a shooter anyway. I like my guns American made whenever possible, but resigned myself to the fact that these I-talian copies are pretty good, too.

Then I saw this barely used Taylor's Uberti at my LGS. Sure, it's short (18"...I think) and in 45 Colt...but...well, what was I supposed to do? I mean...just leave it there?!?

The good news is, I still have a .44-40 1873 with a long octagonal barrel on my wish list.

The bad news is that the next pictures I post are going to ruin the idea of calling this thread "porn"...'cuz it's my ugly mug (mostly cropped out):

I learned why cowboys shooting top ejectors like the '73 wear those big hats. Had I been wearing one, that case, still sizzling hot from 35grains of BP, would not have been able to nestle between the stock and my face. :o

I guess you could say I took "cheek weld" a little too literally :D

A local pard is selling his Taylor's 1866 in .38 Special for $900. He shoots at Damascus. It has a second generation short stroke kit installed. I might have to hold off on the GP100 for this one.

Its a Taylor's will have a premium, not out of line in price but not great for a quick no BS sale. Most Taylors are just hand picked (supposedly) Chiappas with most of the same mechanical constraints and less of the finish issues. Not a deal killer just know what you are getting into. Someday I'm going to buy one of their Kodiak takedowns and restock it in laminate.

Chiappa doesn't make 1866 rifles, this one is an Uberti sold by Taylor's.

My first lever gun. I picked it up today at a local gun show. 1981 Marlin 336 30-30. No crossbolt safety or warnings on the barrel. surprisingly good shape, considering the age. I've already ordered a large loop for it.
