I was contacted by the MSP investigator and need to call her back for my phone interview. Anyone have a heads up on the questions I'll be asked?

Presuming it's similar to the face-fo-face interview, it's mostly to suss out whether you come across like a crazy person. The particulars will vary, some, based on the nature of your application. If you're applying based on having a security clearance or the like, that's going to be different than if you're presenting yourself as a business owner. My investigator didn't have much to really ask about the nature of my business(es), but did casually flip through my application while scanning the evidence I provided of legit financial activity.

Remember that the interviewer isn't really conducting the whole investigation. Just gathering some facts and impressions that are then passed along to the next person in the process. In my case, the face-to-face investigator said everything looked peachy, but the next person in the food chain wanted some additional tax return info. The interviewer was mostly - this was very obvious - seeing if I came across as level headed and plugged sanely into society. Asked about alcohol use, whether I got into fights, that sort of thing. He also spent a few minutes chatting with my wife (who happened to be along), so he didn't have to call her separately. That part was essentially, "Is he a thug?" We spent most of the 20 or so minutes talking about hunting dogs.

Just be yourself, and make sure that anything you say about yourself jives with anything you said in your application ... and will jive with anything that your references say, if asked. It'll be over with before you know it.

I was a reference for someone else and Occam basically nailed exactly what they were asking. He applied as a business owner, but the nature of the questions were regarding excessive etoh use, any drug use, violent tendencies, etc.

Assuming you are a typical upstanding citizen you shouldn’t have any issues or be nervous about it.

    Good luck.

How do you verify that it’s actually an MSP investigator with all the scammers lately? Good luck.

You’re going to be calling a number at the MSP, and or coordinating on the call’s timing via an MSP email address. Regardless, there’s no sensitive into being newly introduced during the interview. You’d know immediately if you were on the phone with someone who wasn’t looking at your application right in front of them.

I got an email from the MSP address with the application ref number.

Just got off the phone with her. Very quick, straight forward and professional. Exactly what I was expecting as far as question: Charged with a crime? domestic violence? Illegal drugs? etc...

The biggest concerns were alcohol, drugs, and violence. They contacted my spouse and all references, same concerns. Application questions were brief. Possibly because of documentation. Most of the interview was friendly chatter.

My most asked question was do you beat your wife. On a similar situation a friend of my had applied with the Harford county Sheriff's office for a job at the detention center. Had been through most of the process and went to his interview. One of the questions was do you spank your children? Being a good Christian man he answered yes. He was disqualified for employment and a Deputy in an unmarked car with a social worker showed up at his home. This is the world we live in!

I just had mine over the phone. She basically confirmed most of the questions on the application. It was very straightforward. I was approved the next day.

Make sure you don't sound like an ogre on the phone, maybe play some opera in the background? But not the opera a high priced hitman would play.

Almost every day there's at least one comment on MDS that makes it worth the visit. And today I got it by noon!

I just had my phone interview yesterday. When you say you were approved the next day, how did they inform you?

You'll get an email telling you that they've reached a final disposition on your application. But it won't say what that actually IS. So, you sign in to the MSP portal, and can check from there. If you're approved, you'll get your hardcopy letter (with the physical permit) in a couple of business days of their having approved you.

If you're impatient waiting for notice, you can keep refreshing the portal status page :)

And you can download your resolved application to see your restrictions.

It took them over a week to mail my permit, but it was back around Christmas/New Years.

I just had my phone interview today as well and they completed my reference interviews on Thursday/Friday. It went pretty good I thought..he was saying I know this stuff is nothing new to you because of my day job and I am always getting background checks done working for DOD...After he spoke as if everything was good to go and that there are 2 other people that the application goes off to for approval in Pikesville...and then he repeated my address to me saying the permit would be mailed there. In my head I'm wondering is he going to approve it or say I should be approved so the other 2 people should approve as well. I guess I am wondering why would he say all that...crossing my fingers and hoping its approved...

What would the other 2 people say or do to the application? Are they just going over it a second and third time?

The investigator you talk to just funnels info to the next investigator who digs into the assertions made in the application (if it's a business owner, the next layer of investigation gets into the financials, the business being good standing, etc). I suppose there's another person that actually makes the call, based on the results.

O ok, so they may not even give you another phone call...they are just verifying your bank statements and deposit slips making sure they are legit.
