I recently bought a Marlin XT 22 bolt action rifle. The rifle is fun to shoot, but the front sight could be better. So I bought a truglow front sight for the gun. The truglow front sight came with the same size front sight screw as the original, and the height of the front sight where the screw inserts and sits is bout half a centimeter higher on the stock front sight than the truglow. So when i try to install the truglow front sight the screw only screws in half way, because its too long, and the front sight is not secure.

Is there a size of screw that would fit my application, or how easy is it to file down a tiny screw? Or if there are any other suggestions? Thank you.

I solve the problem. I switched the front sight screw with the screw that came with the weaver base. Now, the truglo fits snug on top of the barrel with the smaller screw. The longer screw that came with sight, fit perfectly into the weaver base.
