This could get interesting -- Although I've not seen it in the context of a government document I've seen cut-n-pastes, supposedly from supporting documents, that a barrel either has to be marked/stamped HBAR OR the barrel description upon sale had to designate it as an HBAR.

Now, the barrel I received from CDNN looks exactly like their website picture. The website and all literature provided with the barrel list it as a heavy barrel. When I called them to ask about manufacturer they first mentioned Ghost Armament (or Ghost Arms?) but then offered "it could be another as we source from a few USA manufacturers". Unfortunately the barrel provides no helpful indication.

    Hmmmmmmmmmm...

That's interesting. Here's the one I got which looks heavy with the exceptions of the cutouts for the launcher...

I have this Colt M4A1 HBAR I bought for a build and then just bought the actual rifle instead. Now I am trying to figure out what to do with it. Thoughts?

Even thought about sending the barrel to adcofirearms.com to have the A2 FSB shaved down to a low profile gasblock and then put it in a light weight AR build, but the M4A1 is that already. So now I am just wondering what to do.

Hoping to source a 14.0"-14.5" HBAR with mid-gas in NATO/Wylde. While I can find a fair amount of 16" barrels, a few being mid-gas, I was able to locate only one 14.5" HBAR (DEZ Arms) and it is carbine-gas. I'm told by one of the local smiths that White Oak offers 14" mid-gas but I didn't see it on their site. He also said the pricing was dear (over $300) and as this is for an experimental upper I'm targeting the budget parts bin.

Since I have a mid-gas preference the best option might be to simply buy a $60-$100 16"-18" mid-gas barrel then cut and thread. Probably a <$60 option, or, I'm betting my machinist friend could even enjoy the change of pace (and a six-pack).

The DEZ Arms 14.5" barrel I noted above was found in a 2016 thread from this forum. I was hoping additional budget options had entered this market since then.
    .

Ballistic Advantage has a 14.5” mid length Wylde barrel in Hanson and SPR fluted profile. I’m not sure if the latter is considered “heavy” or advertised as such, but probably worth looking in to. I have had good luck with their barrels.

Get a low pro gas block, then take the SOTAR build class, and rebuild it with the new gas block and get it accurized at the same time. Actually though, I personally like iron sights and have more than one AR with standard carry handle irons.

Great ideas. How does it get "accurized"?

How much do you want for it? :)
