My interest in lever action rifles has been growing recently. They are a purely American invention. So I just picked this beauty up from 2A Sales in Jessup (one of our MDS IPs). It's a Henry Long Ranger sized in 223/556 so it can eat some of my plentiful AR ammo. I know that's not an original cowboy caliber, I don't care, I just wanted to have some fun while still staying within the range of calibers I already own.

And it just seemed right to pose it with my new Gonzales Texas Battle flag. The photos with my cheap phone camera don't do it justice; it really is a pretty gun.

Congrats. It is a pretty rifle. Henry has taken a page from Browning's book and done better with mag capacity it seems. Are you going to scope it, considering the flat shooting nature and range of the caliber?

I might scope it eventually, but not right now. I sorta like the way it looks as-is. It comes in two flavors, with and without iron sights. I chose the iron sights model because it's already drilled and tapped for a scope, and the front sight folds down if needed. So that gives me max flexibility. But I'll keep it like it is for now & see if I change my mind down the road.

Actually I'm thinking I might test my metal by bringing it to the next Appleseed that allows for centerfire. It took me three times before I made Rifleman, but ever since that time I've been fortunate to repeat that rating. Guess the training eventually sunk into my thick skull or something. :) But now I'm thinking it's time to up my game and take on a new challenge; a lever action gun at Appleseed is certainly going to do that for me.

That .223 Henry looks like a lot of fun! Looks like a much better rear sight on the rifle also IMO, as compared to the Henry buckhorn on their Big Boy octagon barrels.

Range report please! Good Luck with it, and let us know how you like it!

Very nice. I had no idea anyone made a lever action in .223.

I really want one of those.

I want a second one with 10 round detachable magazine and scout rail.

Pretty sweet in 243 or 308/7.62 also

Very nice alternative to a Browning BLR

Needs one of their large wrangler loops for gloves

I have owned several Henry 22s and recently picked up one of their lever action .410s. Very nice workmanship and super smooth actions. Does not apply to the mag fed rifles, but I wish the others were gate loaded versus the tube under the barrel. Been eyeing a .45 70....

You can buy a large loop lever for most Henry rifles. $50 is the cost. Interestingly though, I don't see availability for the Long Ranger specifically mentioned. May be an oversight....may be unavailable, I don't know.

Really nice-- looks like a fun way to expand the use for all the .223/5.56 just layin' 'round here and muckin' up the place. Looking forward to your range report--
