Yeah, I know, ARs for 556 but I can't help myself, I'm an AK fan! Anywho, I know there's people here that have way more guns than I do and I'm going to rely on them for input. I know a few things going in such as 556 proprietary mags are going to be expensive, but the rest I'll take some advice from owners.

Slr-106 - apparently early models had reliability issues? Expensive mags.

Vz58 in 556 - very few reviews, have proprietary mags and an AR mag adapter.

M90np - very limited run, spare parts could be an issue, apparently gtg otherwise?

Galil ace - expensive, especially once you buy the skeleton stock and new handguard so it's not so ugly. AR mags though.

    Owners, looking for your feedback!

Galil ACE is the way to go, IMHO. You get what you pay for. M90NP if budget is the main concern.

The ACE in 5,56 is the only AK design with a last shot bolt hold open device/bolt release to recharge.

The 308 and 7,62 X 39 do not have this feature. Big mistake.

I wish my early Galil had this feature.

I own an slr-106 and I love it. Mags are not necessarily expensive, problem is that you have to jump through a lot of hoops because of MD laws that make them expensive. I lucked into a bunch of mags in PA and OH.

I've heard that the VZ-58 in 556 does experience issues, but I have nothing solid to back that up. I love my VZ in 7.62x39.

I have the elusive and highly-prized M90NP. It's a tack driver and seems robust with a 1.5mm receiver and RPK style trunion - it's basically an OPAP in 5.56 with adjustable gas. I agree though, no idea where to get parts if I ever need them.

google is your friend, I am not.
    I 4th Galil Ace.

If you change out the stock you can run it with a suppressor, and contrary the the internet, works fine, no special gas block required. I think it runs cleaner and less gassy than an AR suppressed.

I have a 106 sidefolder and it's the best 5.56 AK... because it's actually an AK.

That said, the Galil is more desirable since it takes standard mags and has improved ergos. The Valmet and Galil that came after are both "AK improved" designs.

The Bulgarians do make a fine rifle and the rock-n-lock mags are just as solid as any other Bulgy waffles. I haven't had any issues with mine.

I also have a M90Np and absolutely love it. Had it out a couple weeks ago repeatedly ring an 8” gong at a little over a 100 yards with stock sights.

Polish and Promags will work in the 106s. At least they work in mine

Before the crazyness a SLR106 wasn't hard to find at a reasonable price. Its also the low buck of the Arsenal guns.
