Is it possible to load 9mm bullets (.355) in .38 (357) or .357 mag casings? Specifically jhp 147g bullets. Unsafe?

If you take the neck sizing ball out and inside mic a case that should tell you. I believe so. There was a 95 grain load in 38 or 357 years back that was actually a .355” bullet.

That is greatly undersized for a .357” bore. Perfect formula for destabilizing bullets.

If you use Berry Bullets and a stout load, you can get them to work if remove the decaping rod from the size die. This will require you to decap and bell as separate stages so it will take longer to do. Use something like Red Dot or 231 and it should bump up the bullet.

If you have sufficient neck\ crimp tension yes , it would be safe . The potential safety hazard would be the bullet slipping deeper into the case .

As to accuracy , you would have to test your load in your gun(s) .

I've got 9mm guns, just don't have many .357 bullets. I've got a few boxes of Hornady .355 124g HTP that I should probably trade for something I need more.

    I have .357 bullets
I have over 1000 of 148 gr hard cast dual end wadcutters
I also have 2000 of 135 gr Speer TMJ

I’ll trade 1 for 1 for your bullets. I’m in Frederick.

I tried to load the 147g bullets but they wouldn't stay seated. I could push them back into the casing with my thumb. On a whim I tried to load some Searra 125g .355 hollow points and they worked. I'm not sure what difference there is between them and why one would work and one wouldn't. Both are .355 dia. Went to the range this afternoon to test and they grouped nicely at 50 yds.
