    I read that you can put them as heirs so they get the guns if something happens to me. But I'd have to have someone over 21 as a designee to take possession until they're old enough.

    And a trust also allows NFA items to be accessed and used by any trustee. If not in a trust, then the owner must be present when they are accessed or used.

    So technically, the safe where you keep your NFA items, it individually owned, needs to be only openable by you. Your wife is not legally allowed to have the combo.

    No reason for a trust for non-NFA items. You can deal with them with your will.
