Consider a tube feeder for storing ammo instead for quicker loading.
Avoid pointed rounds in the unlikely event of a chain fire.
Practice working the action. It may be a much longer stroke than you are use to. While short stroking may work for you elsewhere it will just jam the rifle. If you know what I mean............

Marlin makes a 336 with a fixed polymer stock I believe.

And it may come in a compact version. Very handy.

Marlin's are side eject too. Not a fan of top eject with a scope mounted.

Unless it has really high rings so the spent cases will clear. But then you have to worry about cheek weld.

AFAIK ACOG's ain't made with 30-30 BDC's. I'd slap a micro red dot sight on it (like an Aimpoint Micro not an RMR) and call it a day. If you use Hornady Leverevolution I've seen them be pushed out to 250 yards unsupported.

I'd also slap a Streamlight Pro Tac Rail Mount 2 on it.

The only thing I don't like about those guns is the stock. The railed forend lets you put a handstop so you can dig it into your shoulder, the short barrel length means it's handier, and the threaded barrel comes with a good flashhider.
Everyone else has covered the basics, it's a famous easily available round with good terminal ballistics, you can top off the mag as you shoot, and bonus points here you can chuck it in a folding chair bag and no one is any the wiser.

If they where available with a fixed polymer stock I'd buy 2.

I was joking about the ACOG. The idea of a tacticool lever action makes my heart warm due to the giggles.
