    1. Three pro-gun bills come out of Senate committee
    ************************************************************

Your emails and phone calls continue to move pro-gun bills forward! Currently there are six pro-gun bills alive and only one anti-gun bill.

Today the following three pro-gun bills cleared the Senate Courts of Justice committee and head to the Senate Floor:

HB 1656, Delegate Cole, allows private and religious schools to have armed school security officers, PASSED 14 to 0!

HB 2253, Delegate Pogge, requires the Virginia State Police to process non-resident CHPs in 90 days, PASSED 9 to 6! Party-line vote again. Democrats don't want non-resident permits processed in a reasonable time-frame? I don't understand their opposition.

HB 2548, Delegate Rush, requires that information on people who have had their gun-rights restored be put on the VCIN system so that police officers will know about the restoration, even after hours, PASSED 14 to 0!

The gun bills (3 pro, 1 anti) that cleared the Senate are now in the House and have not yet been scheduled to be heard in a subcommittee.

    2. R.I.P. Doc Thompson
    ************************************************************

It is with great sorrow that I report that Doc Thompson, only 49-years-old, was struck by a train and killed while jogging near railroad tracks on Tuesday. He was apparently wearing wireless earbuds and didn't hear the approaching train.

From 2007 through 2012, Doc Thompson had a show on WRVA from 3pm to 6pm weekends. Doc was a huge supporter of gun rights and a VCDL member. He had me on his show frequently to talk about guns during those 5 years. Doc spoke at at Lobby Day in 2009, as well.

Dennis O'Connor and I had the honor of being invited to Doc's wedding to his then fiancee, Yuna Lee, shortly before he left Richmond to work in Ohio.

He went on to work on Blaze radio and subbed for Glenn Beck from time to time.

Small world that it is, EM Ed Levine ran into Doc at the SHOT Show three weeks ago. Doc told Ed to tell me, "hi" and Ed took a selfie with Doc and forwarded it to me. Little did I know...

I can't find any video of Doc's talk at Lobby Day 2009, but below is some video of Doc talking to members just before the rally began. In the video is also another VCDL member we lost a few months ago: Dale Welch.

Doc had a great sense of humor. Whenever I run into Doc again, I'm going to rib him, "Jogging along RAILROAD TRACKS with EARBUDS on? Railroad tracks and earbuds? Really, Doc?"

Rest in peace my friend. While you were here you brought a bright light into what can sometimes be a very dark place.

    3. HELP NEEDED: Harrisonburg gun show on Feb. 16 and 17!
    ************************************************************

We have a new gun show coordinator for Harrisonburg - Seth Hower. Seth needs volunteers for the upcoming Harrisonburg gun show on February 16 and 17. The show is going to be held at the Rockingham Fairgrounds.

If you have worked at a gun show before or are a VCDL member wanting to be involved for the very first time (such as myself), VCDL needs your help to preserve and strengthen our Second Amendment in the Commonwealth.

Volunteer’s admission to the gun show is FREE.

The atmosphere is casual and fun.

    Positions available for all shifts:

*Setup (TBD): Need just one person.*

    4. The joy of reaching out to those who are against gun ownership
    ************************************************************

We need to reach out to non-gun owners whenever we can, especially those who are against gun ownership.

There is nothing like taking a newbie to the range and seeing their face light up when they realize just how much fun it is to shoot a gun. Case in point:
