I'd be bitter, too. Any recommendations on reasonably priced hand tools made in the US? I have purchased a few Armstrong tools that are US made. So far, they seem nice. A lot better than current Craftsman stuff at least.

Wow. I just saw this post. Sorry for bringing this thread back to life. I just want to respond to DZ.

Armstrong was a part of our company. Danaher bought them up in the 90s. Their plant was in Chicago. That was closed right away and tooling moved to our plants. Now as I understand it Apex is still manufacturing that brand. Apex still has the brand on their website. I believe it is all manufractured in Texas. Armstrong is sold as an industrial brand of hand tools.

Thanks, John. I'll keep replacing my craftsman tools with Armstrong as they need replacement.

Armstrong is good, as are S-K, Williams, and Wright.

I think the Lowes Kobolt brand is better than the new Craftsman tools. I don't buy Craftsman anymore unless it's used vintage stuff. Unless I need something immediately all my tool purchases now are used stuff from eBay and flea markets. You can get great deals on Snap On, MAC, Matco, Cornwell, Proto, Williams, Armstrong, Easco, S-K, Blue Point, USA-made Craftsman, etc., by buying used and an old, well used Snap On ratchet is still going to be smoother than a brand new Craftsman.

We may have talked about this on another thread, but the Craftsman brand has been bought by Stanley-Black and Decker recently. They already make hand tools, some are import. My stepson works for them (started with DeWalt and now is with the Mac Tools division of Stanley B&D). I will get more info on the Craftsman situation in the future.

Dang, missed the sale - can someone let me know if you see it for $30 again? Thanks!

It's listed at $50 right now.
