I finally got my Grandfather to show me his "wife's" revolvers. They were originally his "wife's" husbands and she got them when he died. He was a judge and had mob connections. They were both purchased in 1952 and I have the bills of sale which is nothing more than scribbles on paper, in NJ. Both serial numbers are intact. I am trying to buy them from her or get a value for her to sell them. I know nothing about revolvers but both cylinders rotated nice and have very little wiggle once locked in place
First is a ~1951 S&W K38 combat masterpiece. Its not in the best condition and its nickeled, not sure if factory. SN is K117XXX . Im thinking its worth around $300 ?

Next is a Rohm RG63, made in Germany. When I took it out of the holster it was loaded, which means its been loaded since about 1985. Its .22lr and in good condition. The SN is at the bottom of the grip and intact I didnt bother to write it down. Im thinking its worth about $30.

The rohm if its a private sale and in the condition I hink its in you can snag about 50 bucks from a private sale.

The K38 looks to be in poor cosmetic condition from the pic. The barrel looks rusted and without finish.......200-250, model 10 prices because a refinish is going to just keep it a shooter not a collector piece.

No, they say Franzite on them

Yeah 250 at most in working condition. You gotta think another guy has to track down new grips, park, re-nickel, or blue it, and get the timing checked. Plus it doesn't have any collector value anymore. Probably has more sentimental value as it's got grandmas heritage attached to it.

Still a cool ass toy and I'd get parked and blast away but not going to put your kid through college.

I have an RG 23 just like that.... Even have the box. I "value" mine at around $40 to $50 and it is in nicer shape. I hesitate to even admit owning it here. As I have the original box and mine was shot by a little old lady, but only on Sundays I might get a tad more for it, but not much if I sold it.... btw, if you do get it, I wouldn't shoot it unless you are real sure that the cylinder timing is correct and it locks up tight. Mine will never be shot. In fact the little old lady who owned it before me I think just shot blanks in it.

Thanks, one part of me wants to tell them to take the Rohm to a turn in and get $100 but I really dont want to see a nice condition older gun destroyed and to help pad the antis stats.

    Just for your terminology : that's not a K38 . That's a Combat Masterpiece, or in S&W Collectorspeak a "pre Model 15" .

It doesn't *need* refinishing, it's perfectly fine for a shooter, and refinishing would decrease its value.

Thanks, the original bill of sale from 1952 says K38 on it. Thats why I was using that term. If I get it I plan on removing the rust and putting some wood grips on and will go from there.

The Rohm is an original "Saturday night special" and they are known to keyhole at 20'.
Still a nice $25 gun to shoot rats with sub sonics.
