When he was a kid back in the 50's, my neighbor and his friends filled one with powder and garbage and managed to light off a cannon which was on the grounds of the old soldier's home in Marshalltown, Iowa. He said some of the garbage was stuck in the sides of the buildings across the street *laugh*. They got caught by police.

For those who don't know, there are a few companies that make full size, fully functional Civil War reproduction cannons. Steen Cannons comes to mind.

The NSSA (North-South Skirmish Association) actually has cannon competitions where live ammo is fired. I've never seen it, but I want to go up and check it out sometime.

I once asked a DNR officer about having a cannon and he said it would be just like a muzzleloader and I could hunt with it if I could aim it.

Don't know if that is true or not but that's what I am going on.

If I'm not mistaken the majority of artillery used in the Revolutionary War was privately owned. Oh how far we have come from our roots :(
