Ya know, if you're worried and scared about shooting yourself in the femoral, maybe you shouldn't carry that way. I refuse to be uncomfortable (physically or mentally) about types of carry.
Thousands of people use shoulders holsters and have pistols in backpacks that point at everyone, everywhere. No one seems to be concerned about that.

I'm as uncomfortable carrying AIWB as I was when I first started carrying with one in the chamber. After carrying for a while, I got more and more comfortable. This too shall pass.
I spent the past three days camping with the wife and kids. I carried AIWB the entire time. By day 2, I disengaged the safety on my shield and proceeded to make myself get over this irrational fear. So far so good, but I still have not reached the level of comfort that I have when carrying at 4 o'clock. I know it's all in my head. I'm taking it one day at a time.

I've been carrying since I was 21 and if I could remember that far back I'm sure it was disconcerting at first. As far as AIWB, I like it because I can access my gun from a seated position and keep track of it when I'm out and about.
It's always in my working space so anyone attempting to disarm me will have a more difficult time and avoid incidents like this:

Now if I could just get used to the Bravo Concealment mag pouch I just started wearing recently:
