But is it an AMT that works or one which is better used as a hammer?

I haven't found that out yet...but I will. I know AMT guns either work well or don't. This one was about the dirtiest, most crud caked gun I ever purchased. It took several days of letting parts soak and scrubbing to get it clean so I expect it did see a fair amount of shooting. The barrel interior is good and sharp so I expect it's ok. The trigger has some creep but that's not unusual in 1911 pistols.

Once I get it to the range and tested I'll see what, if anything, needs to be done.

Since it doesn't look like Colt will ever produce a Long Slide this will have to suffice. I'm hoping to find one of these in 10mm...they're certainly available but tend to be pricey...so I'll have to be patient for when the right one is available at the right price.

they can be picky...the ones I have had the ramp / barrel (throating)
fixed and have various "spring" weights. "Ball" ammo they are fine,
at least the ones here, with the ramp / barrel issues fixed...they eat
everything..from H&G 68's, Speer "flying ashtrays" (what I used on Pins)
to Ball. the long slide will take a little time to get used to. Used it as
a "Pin Gun" all I can say it's different...
Once you get it more or less "tuned" they can be pretty accurate..

AMT had issues with the Steel / galling on some / fit, etc..

bought mine when the "bad" rep hit, most never fired....CHEAP
along with Vegas, Crown City Arms

    BTW: Nice find...

I havent contributed in a while. Recently bought a couple sets of 1911 grips from the U.S.S. Texas Foundation. For those of you who know the Texas she is the last extant battleship that served in WWI and WWII and an example of a dreadnought. She is getting ready to be towed out for a major restoration, enjoyed touring her a couple years ago.

Made from wood recovered in the 2013 restoration, albeit it could be wood installed in the late 1980s when she underwent substantial deck restoration, not the greatest woodwork but still cool. For a good cause and most of the value is a tax deduction.

Unfortunately I was too late to get the standard 1911 grips, so now I am going to have to find a commander sized 1911 to fit one of these sets to.

Amazing. This pistol looks much better than the 45's I was dealing with as my unit company armorer back in the 80's.

It’s stamped with AA (Augusta Arsenal) so it was inspected and most likely rebuilt there. It’s in fantastic shape which may be due in part to the fact that it was in the Navy and saw far less use than the Army. Who knows.
