Today, we lost Joe Gressis, 42, loving
    husband and father of two.
Those of us who have enjoyed the fruits of Joe’s incredible efforts would have enjoyed
any of his several restaurants in Charles
County - Obo’s of Waldorf and Indian Head,
Galazio’s of La Plata, and Lucianna’s of
Waldorf. He also ran the old Uzo’s in
La Plata, beloved and remembered by
    many.

Joe was a tireless worker who employed 160
people, whose food was wonderful, but
most importantly, he selflessly fed the
hungry, hired many who might otherwise
have gone jobless, was a mentor to many,
an example to all in many ways.

My family was blessed to have Joe as our
    dear friend and son’s godfather.

Our hearts bleed for his loss and for his
    family, his young wife, Lucianna,
and especially his 8 year old daughter
and his 6 year old son.

    Please, comrades, remember this good
    man in your prayers.

    Are you kidding me?

Joe did more for the community than any elected official and they hated him for it. He continually fought the town and county to keep his businesses open and thriving. He then took the proceeds and gave much of it back to the community by way of free meals.

Far to young. Like many others recently lost.

Never met the man but from these posts this is the type of human being that should be talked up by the press as a role model but alas...

RIP and may those who were blessed with crossing his path find comfort in knowing he is in a better place.

Holy crap. First I've heard of this. Joe has done so much good in the community, feeding people for what they could afford at times. RIP, he was a true asset to the area and really cared about his employees.

Facebook is blowing up about Joe’s sudden
passing. We had no idea how many lives he
touched. Many of the posts are very detailed, wry compelling and heartfelt.
Flags at Indian Head are at half staff.
So sad that one so good is taken so soon.
Our son, his godson, said to us that while
Joe was with us, he constantly helped others
one after another, but now Joe can help
    everyone all the time.

    Beautiful send-off for Joe, today.
Thanks to the Sheriff’s Department for
    exceptional service to the procession.
    So many wonderful memories shared
    with those present.
Joe made a big difference in so many
people’s lives in his brief 45-year stint.

The restaurants reopened yesterday and seemed to have a good crowd. Joe wouldn't have wanted his employees to loose income. They have been hit hard by the pandemic closings. Joe made a real effort to take care of his employees.

Theoughout this thing, he always worked to keep his place open to whatever extent allowed. Had a few dinners out on the patio and takeout. Galazios is one of the few good places in town.

His mother, “Mina”, will be running the
    restaurants for the immediate future.
    She has lots of experience.

    Joe’s wife, Luciana, was poised
and elegant throughout the ordeal of the
viewing and funeral. I am sure Joe would
have been very proud of her, and probably
a bit surprised by the public outpouring of
    thanks and affection.
