I want to get an AR

So I’m thinking that it would be nice to have an AR 15 type rifle. I know the various HBAR’s rifles are ok in .MD, but my friend just purchased a S&W MP 15 Sport in 5.56. This was bought in Md. It was not stamped HBAR. Is this rifle legal?

On the bright side, M&P15 Sport is a turd in the AR-15 spectrum of rifles.

Forget about it and have Engage Armament build you a lower-cost AR-15. It will be a better rifle in every way.

Why would a "copy" of a Colt AR be banned, but not an actual Colt AR?

Non-HBAR Colt AR-15 rifles are banned. HBAR Colt AR-15 rifles are cash and carry. The law specifically excludes HBARs.

Gotcha. Admittedly I did not read the link.

So, if there was such an animal, an S&W M&P 15 Sport with HBAR, would be legal?

Theoretically. It gets dicey if S&W doesn't label it HBAR.

Colt 6721, build it yourself or get Engage to build you one. Building it yourself can yield the best for less. It is very easy, as there are YouTube videos that show step by step instructions.
