A very close friend of mine is selling me his guns. He has been going to school out of the country for quite some time; has gotten married and only will be returning to the states twice a year. He has some old battle rifles, and 3 handguns. He wants to sell me them (with the gun locker) for $1. Yea, we are that close. I can just buy the long guns from him, but the three handguns (one is discussed here: http://www.mdshooters.com/showthread.php?t=149161 ) I would have to get transferred via FFL. So that means an FFL in Wisconson (where they are currently being held by a LEO who is a friend) would charge me to transfer them to MD and then an FFL in MD would charge me again to get them to me (once approved by MSP).
    1. Is there any way I could become the "guardian" of the handguns while he is gone? I remember reading somewhere I could keep them in a locked safe as long as my friend has the only key, and gives me a letter of "guardianship".

    2. Does the owner need to be present at the FFL to make the exchange (or will a bill of sale suffice)?

    3. If #1 and #2 are "yes- I can be the guardian" and "no-he doesn't need to be there"...could he mail me the key when I was ready to take ownership?

    Thoughts?
