    I bought the 5 roll pin punch set from Brownell's for around $20 and it worked great when I assembled a 2 lowers a couple months ago. I didn't buy/use any roll pin holders. I'm sure they make life easier, but I would not say they are necessary for assembling an AR lower.

    You really don't even need roll pin punches to assemble a lower... I usually just use some pliers and electrical tape to put in the roll pins. (A detent tool, on the other hand, is a must.)

    OTOH, if you want to get a roll pin back out, there's nothing better than a roll pin punch.
