Last April, everyone on MDS was buying up Royal Tiger Import SKS rifles. They were being sold as gunsmith specials with broken stocks and all that good stuff that tinkerers love.

Well, one of mine came with a broken safety catch spring.

Finally got around to ordering one from Murray's Gunsmithing.

Being an aftermarket part, I was concerned that it wouldn't quite fit or function like the original spring. His springs are 100% perfect and 100% drop-in with the tension of a stock part.

I don't know how to post a link to his site, but if you have a broken spring order one from Murray's.

10 bucks and 4 bucks shipping.

That floppy and annoying little beatch is now a thing of the past.

Murray's is quality stuff. Every time a new SKS arrives, it gets a Murray's spring-loaded firing pin. I know it's not necessary with good cleaning and all, but like Gaggi said in Casino, "Why take a chance?"

Glad you got that li'l sucker fixed to your satisfaction. They aren't pretty, but they are beautifully built rifles.

This is funny and not taking a jab at you in any way.

I was actually thinking about you when I put a non-stock part on my historically correct C&R rifle.

You were telling me that broken spring was a part of the rifles true journey and it should be left as is.

    :)

    Not me.

I readily admit that I'm a huge stickler about keeping guns original, but don't think that I ever seriously told anyone that a broken spring (or any broken part, for that matter) shouldn't be replaced with an original (if you can find one), or a reproduction (if you can't).

I also think that if you can swap out a part on a "shooter" without modifying the rest of the firearm, and still keep the parts to put it back into original condition, I have no problem with that--but BATFE might, in some cases, if you are calling it a C&R. I've got several handguns that came with original grips in excellent condition that I've put replacement grips on to protect the originals. I keep the originals stored safely with the gun, and labeled as original to that firearm. It's when people start drilling, chopping, and slopping on the JB Weld that I get heartburn.

That said, I was hoping that this improvement to your SKS was going to put you into a good mood, for a change, and you'd quit being our Resident Grumpy Old Man. :sad20: That's taking a jab at you, of course, but I don't say it in a mean-spirited manner. I think you enjoy being the Designated Codger around here sometimes.

Thank you for increasing my vocabulary.

I had to look up the definition Codger.
