They were the 2 I had my eye on over a year a ago.
I went with the CZ 455 (obviously since the 457 just came out)
The 457 just came out but I’m sure it’s just as good as the 452 and 455.
Another one to consider is the new for 2018 Tikka T1x

Not knocking the Savage at all...but CZ rifles are awesome. Go with whichever fits you best and feels most comfortable. Either will do what you want.

Agree. The build quality on a CZ 427 is well above the price point in my opinion (I have a Scout for my son and .17/22LR "American" myself).

Do yourself a favor and check out the "Yo Dave" aftermarket trigger groups as well. You won't be disapointed.

I am leaning toward the CZ. I have a savage in .308

Man that Tikka is sweet, hadn’t seen it yet. Now I have to decide between 3 lol

I have a similar conundrum. Thinking about the Tikka T1x in 22LR or the CZ 457 American in 22WMR (I'm leaning toward the latter because I have some CZ bolts in 22LR that I'm very happy with). Mostly positive reports about the Tikka T1x on RimfireCentral as well as largely glowing reports about the CZ 457 Varmint in 22 LR that you're considering. Of course the Varmint stock is beefier and not as well suited for off hand shooting/hunting as the American might be.

How much beefier is it? I was going for the bull barrel and I knew that would add some weight but didn’t think about difference in stocks. This will be 50/50 hunting and plinking.

I have 452 American (beautiful rifle) and 455 Varmint (tack driver). Either are fine offhand, but the American is designed to be shot offhand and points very quickly. The Varmint works in both capacities, but is (for me) a bit slower to get set up behind offhand. It excels from the bench or a rested position.

CZ website indicates 6.17 vs 7.08 pounds for the 457 American vs Varmint with wood stocks ...

    https://cz-usa.com/product/cz-457-varmint/

The Tikka T1x has a stock design similar to the CZ American and comes in under 6 pounds.

If they haven't already, CZ will release lighter, synthetic stock versions of the 457 American (as they have previously for the 455 American).

I am not putting Savage rifles down, that said, I believe the fit, finish and quality of the CZ's that I've seen and owned were superb. They are old school wood and steel, those with which I am familiar. Accurate as well. I had a Varmint in .17 mach II. Nice rifle. Kinda wish I still had it but I am sure the current owner is pleased with it too.
Let us know what you decide and include photos.

I have had both and many others. Savage has a slightly better trigger while CZ looks a little prettier. About the same accuracy.

If you are interested and are anywhere near Columbia, I have a Savage mkii TR that I would part with for a reasonable price. Bunch of mags and a single shot adapter as well. I was going to get it threaded but picked up an already threaded model instead. Pm me if you are.

I have the Savage. No complaints. It is extremely accurate for a 22lr. Trigger is great. The "stock" stock is not great. I put a Boyds stock on and made a huge difference. Attached is a 10 shot 50 yards group. Bottom group is mine. Top group is my fathers.

Several guys who love Tikka’s were not super fond of the plastic stock, I’m sure there will be aftermarket ones to come. I’d let to check one out myself.

I own multiple CZ firearms and one thing I’ve noticed with all of them is the fantastic build quality and accuracy. I personally don’t own any savages so my opinion is slightly biased but I’ve heard many people say as far as accuracy goes CZs are the best of any manufacturer. Then again if your shooting at around 50 yards or so then pretty much the majority of 22 rifles will be comparable accuracy wise.

I needed a threaded .22 for my silencer. I got a CZ 455 tacticool model and did a Yo Dave trigger mod. The rifle is awesome. dime sized groups at 50yds. My BIL got a Savage MKII it doesn't eject all the time and you have to use a knife to get the brass out, I also hate the Savage triggers, and the fit and finish of the Savage is at least 3 tiers below the CZ.

Get a CZ. I wish the 457 had been around when I was in the market. The 90 degree bolt throw of the 455 can make scoping the rifle difficult. I have about 1/16" of clearance with my Vortex scope right now, the new safety on the 457 seems nice too. The 455 safety is cumbersome and awkward to use. Anyway get a CZ, for the price they are worth it.

    .

I would say the same thing. Even a cheap Savage from Walmart amazed me as it was just as accurate as my expensive CZ American. The Savage has a better trigger out of the box, you need to be somewhat handy to get the CZ as smooth and crisp.
