First off, I am OCD with all of my things. I’ve gotten better though.

I have a brand new Daniel Defense M4 and I just noticed that the magwell walls are not even, with left side a little thicker. You can also see how the lip of the magwell is wider on the left side.

There was also a burr on the lip, which you can see in the pictures. I just sanded it out.

Is it normal for magwell to be uneven? I looked at my other DDs and LWRCs and all of them are even.

I know it is a tool, but I buy higher end weapons and expect them to be built well with good fit and finish.

Have you thought about contacting DD about this? Maybe a bad mill job, could be still in spec or not.

One question: do your mags have more play in this lower when compared to your other DD lowers?

I was going to contact DD today, but wanted to check here if it is normal before contacting them.

    Mag fit seems fine.

Questionable mill job. I'd ask them about it. Keep in mind that this is the lower, so if you decide it's unacceptable, you're gonna have to deal with a "new" firearm again.

So I contacted Daniel Defense and sent them pictures. One of the heads of Customer Service wrote “I do not anticipate this impeding on the functionality of the rifle. If it does cause any issues we will be happy to make it right quickly. Enjoy your new rifle.”

I guess I am ok with it. If I have a problem, they will fix/replace it.

First concern would be mag operation. Secondly, I'd be concerned about reliable feeding issues. The round has to be slightly eschewed to it's optimum position.

I'd return it with the understanding that since it is out of spec, you don't feel the receiver is going to be reliable. Ask for a replacement.

I’m not sure if it is out of spec. I think the flaring is just uneven.

Can you remove the upper and snap a Birdseye view of the top of the lower receiver? Looking down into the trigger pack?

Also another with a view of the lower receiver where you remove the buffer?

Pictures were taken biased toward the thick side of the receiver. A pics centered on the magwell may reveal more. After checking magwell wall thickness on both sides, look at the outside roll on the thin looking side. It may be the magwell was done correctly but the outside blending is uneven from one side to the next. The magwell itself seems to be cut well. Keep us informed.

OCD has never been known to accomplish much, but being a DD, it's understandable.

That angle is what I want to review, but I want to see the side walls of the FCG pocket.

ETA, good second pic but I need more light in the pocket to see the side walls.
