My first two handguns (I bought them at the same time in 2008) were a S&W 686 and a Springfield Armory XD45 Tactical (5in barrel). I loved both guns, but sold the revolver to a forum member about a year ago.

This XD45 is a BIG pistol that holds 13+1 (of Speer Gold Dot 230’s) and is an absolute tack driver. I’ve never had ANY malfunctions in over 2k rounds. It shoots everything! It may not be pretty, but it is reliable.

My TLR-1 HL fits it perfectly. I’ve also since added Talon grips.

With all the subsequent XD generations, you can get this handgun at a very cheap price. There are no interchangeable back straps, but it fits my hand right and points naturally if you like the 1911 grip angle.

It is my nightstand gun and has been for 10 years. Every time I consider changing it up with my CZ SP-01, I can’t do it and I love my SP-01!

If anyone is looking for a cheap full sized 45acp, give it a look.

    YMMV

I got a XDm9 w/4.5 in barrel about a year ago and am very impressed. It's now my nightstand gun, too for most of the same reasons you mentioned. Can't beat 19+1 capacity either. Of course it won't kill a person's soul like your 45, but...

:lol2: my CZ SP-01 is (18/19+1). With that many GoldDot 9mm +P+ rounds I think we’d both be good to go. Now maybe I’ll switch to my Glock 20 with 15+1 of hot Underwood 10mm. That gun could even kill Chuck Norris! :)

LOL! I ended up buying a 5in 686+ 3-5-7 Talo edition. I added a front fiber optic sight to it. I still haven't shot it and crazy as I am, I'm thinking of selling it.

    Don’t sell it!
That’s a gun to be passed down for generations.

Why in the world would you ever sell one of these?

Another under appreciated pistol is the Beretta Neos. Really enjoy shooting it. It's very similar to shooting my old high standard model 107 with it's very slanted grip.

I have mitiple 40cal pistols and a few K rounds of ammo and have yet to even shoot any more of them once.

I do love my pair of first generation XD45 Tacticals. They are tack drivers and never jam them r fail to shoot anything I put thru it.
