I bought quite a few boxes of the Herters 30-30 ammo last year when I first got my Marlin 336. I saved the brass but when I tried to de-prime the rounds I found that they had crimped in the primers and my de-priming dies would not remove them. I just put them away until I found a way to de-prime them.

I saw a video of a guy reloading his WIN 32 Special ammo and he mentioned that Lee has a de-priming tool set available. I found it at Cabelas and it's real easy to use.

Same here, never heard of crimped .30-30.

But the tool is the Lee Universal Decapping Die.

And there should be one on every reloading bench.

Link? I just had a stuck case due a crimped primer. I hadn't had a problem with them, but this one case the primer didn't come out all the way and my 2nd time trying to de-prime it the case got stuck.

I love my Harvey Hand Depriming tool or removing crimped primers, well really all primers. I can deprime while watching tv/Netflix and make things go smoother on the press.

The Lee model is easiest and cheapest to use. Just set it in the base and stick the tool in the cartridge and hit it with a small hammer. I think it costs around five bucks.

I was recommending the die type decapper. Collect hold, so you seldom break pins.

The hammer on it type works well also.

This is what I use, since I usually deprime and then wet tumble nasty or newly acquired brass. I have had to crank the collet real tight on some tough crimped primers, but I have never lost a pin.

For you folks who single load ammo, you really ought to buy a Lee hand press. I single reload a couple of odd calibers and it makes a lot of the job easy. For pistol calibers, I size/deprime and bell the case mouths. For rifle, I size on the bench and then use the Lee to bell the mouths. I use my hand primer for priming those type of cases.

This allows me to watch a movie or history channel while getting the job done. Just a matter of moving from one coffee can to another. ;)
