  • I got a killer deal on a bunch of pulled HST .40 projectiles, which appear to be tarnished (photos only). Can bullets effectively be wet tumbled in ss media to restore their shine? This is for cosmetic/pretty boy purposes only.

FWIW- Before the haters chime in, I am loading 10mm, not .40S&W. Even if I was, there's nothing wrong with that.

Try it on 20 or 30 of them and see what happens. FMJ jackets are pretty soft. I don't think it would take a long time in the tumbler to remove tarnish....15 mins? Those are HP, but I can't see SS media damaging the jacket. Why do you care that they're shiny?

No problem. I do it all the time for the pulled bullets I use. A tumbler doesn't damage the bullets.

Anyone else thought this was about keyholing?

I did, but then I saw that passive aggressive anti .40cal comment. Sure tumble your 10mm projectiles, make them all shinny.

I like my .40 cal. Some day it will be the only legal caliber in Maryland, since they are perceived to be less dangerous then a RedRider BB gun.

    John,
I'm gonna give you a call tomorrow. I will hook you up with some "10mm Kurz" projectiles. I will also give you some RMR .357 Sig HP projectiles to let "the haters" know you shoot a manly caliber too.:innocent0:innocent0
I keed, I keed. (But seriously, I will give you the .40 pulled HST source info)

I would test fire them before loading a bunch in a hot 10mm. I think federal has the HST balanced pretty well, and 100 fps more will / might cause jacket separation. I've seen this with 45 and 9mm with pcc.

I came expecting a juicy discussion of 5.45 and 6.5 Grendel bullet compositions and cross-sections, and came away sorely disappointed when I didn't see a single mention of 7n6 terminal ballistics in OP's post.

Shiny 10mm handloads are still good, though, especially if you're shooting them through something classy like a Witness, a Razorback, or a Sig.
