I really miss the Pat Burns days. When he/she would post 15 M39s in the $329 to $499 range (with an occasional $599 antique receiver) and they would sit unsold for 3 or 4 days before they were all sold. And everyone on Gunboards would cry, “she’s way overpriced!”

I popped for one - $259 sans magazine and including shipping. It arrived Wednesday. Light holster wear around the muzzle, but the bore is immaculate.

First, I regularly see listings on the various WTS pages for 440 cans in the $150 range. Second, why in the world would anyone pay that much for steel cased, corrosive ammo when for a little more you can buy brass cased, boxer primed stuff? Surplus is not magic. When it was $79 or even $99 shipped, yeah, it was great. When it's $200 per tin? Nope.

There is literally no set of facts today, unless you plan on dying tomorrow, where buying Soviet surplus 54R makes more sense than buying commercial stuff.

If anyone is looking for a nice shooter German K98k rifle, Brian at South Carroll Sporting Goods has several nice Romanian Captured K98k’s and a very nice Swiss K31 for fair prices.

The Romanian Captured K98k’s have mostly matching serial numbers and don’t look like trash compared to most other ones I’ve seen.
