Help me understand this...because it’s super confusing to me...maybe I’m overthinking it...so bare with me.

In MD are only 10 rd mags legal? How are folks getting and using 12,15, 17 round mags on their handguns??

I can’t purchase a gun that comes with those size mags, so what am I missing or misunderstanding. I appreciate any guidance on this.

Purchase, transfer, manufacture, etc....everything except posession is prohibited. Buy the mags out of state and bring them home (and to the range...wherever) is pefectly legal...for now. You can purchase the gun (if it's on the roster), but just cannot accept the mags that come with it. Take a trip to any of the neighboring states in America and buy your mags.

So I can order the larger mags online And still be clear, right?

This might be the dumbest of all laws.

:nono: Not quite. You can't have them delivered to you here. People order them online and have them shipped to an out of MD location. There is some debate about where that transaction actually takes place, but (as far as I know) no one has been locked up for it.

You can (and I would think all of us do) physically get yourself and your wallet into PA, VA, WV, or DE to buy your mags and bring them into the state in your posession.

Or, go on vacation out of state. While there, order them on line and have them delivered to your out of state beach house. Then return home with them. Transaction done completely out of state.

So, it is a simple as I initially thought. Truly head scratching. Thanks good people.

The first rule of standard capacity mag club is: don't talk about standard capacity mag club.

Because it is inevitable that the MD GA will come back around to fix this "loophole" in their long game of maximum infringement. Knowing how those clowns think, they will go for a ban without grandfathering, and instantly felonize lots of MD citizens. And then off to court it will go, also inevitably all the way to the SCOTUS. Which is why even though we have no chance of creating a non-lefty legislature in this state, and have seen our last even vaguely fair-weather conservative governor, the person in the White House and control of the senate is absolutely vital when multiple SCOTUS seats will shortly be rotated.

Support MSI in pursuit of the litigation on this we all know is coming, but support toss-up senate races in other states to keep Schumer from running the SCOTUS approval show. And do anything possible to keep Biden's puppeteers from gaining the White House. Otherwise, it will get a lot worse in MD than just being told to surrender your standard capacity mags.

I will not be crass and tell you go get your shinebox, but instead will suggest you go to the Introductions thread, and post up about yourself, so we can know you better.

OR #1- Most mfgs do actually make 10rd magazines for most current production pistols for sales in restricted states . Albeit the ones you find on sale on the internet are usually the " Free America Compliant " versions .

OR #2- The Dealer May permently block the magazines to 10rd or less . Not many routinely do so , but a few do . There was a thread discussing this recently .

If you transfer through Fox's Firearms, they will pin the mag to 10 rounds for an additional fee. If you prefer not to have an extra hole in your mag, then visit gun shops in less restrictive states around MD for high capacity magazines.

Friends don't let friends buy from Fox.

    Do a search.

Be aware that many vendors will not ship to an address that differs from your credit card billing address. You may have to shop around to find one that does.

It used to be 20, some of us grandfathered in. Personally I like to have 50-100 rounds on me for each gun I’m carrying. Jogging is a bitch.

Cannot take possession within the state. You can go out of state and purchase and bring back into the state but the way the law is written you cannot purchase in state for delivery out of state due to a ruling that by doing that you are circumventing the “intent” of the law. Makes it a PITA when you want to sell a handgun with highcap mags to an individual within state. Can transfer the gun in state but must hand over the mags out of state.

I have heard of pinning magazines and know what it means in terms of restricting capacity. But, having never seen a pinned magazine, how exactly is the process done?

Depending on the magazine type they can be standard capacity dented at 10 rounds (how a lot of manufacturers make their 10 round factory magazines like Sig), they can have a rivet in them to stop the follower from allowing more than 10 rounds (usually done on rifle magazines), or they can attach something inside that doesn’t allow the follower to go past 10 rounds.

I’ve only had experience with factory dented magazines and rifle magazines riveted to 10 rounds. Everything else I’ve bought with 10 round magazines and then taken a trip to Delaware.

Here’s one of the pinned AR-15 magazines I purchase When I couldn’t get to Delaware during Corona. I ordered black but the rivet is easier to see on the yellow.
