I get the solvent trap issue. I mean the guy manufactured a suppressor. Is there a law in MA about 80% lowers? As far as ATF goes, you can legally turn 80% into 100% with no serial number. Is there a state law against?

I believe the issue was possession of the firearm without a FID license.

Man, MA sounds as bad or worse than MD. "Possession of ammunition without a license ..." Really? Man.

What's concerning to me is that a solvent trap can lead to a search warrant, which leads me to believe purchases are being monitored. I'd love to see the search warrant but I'm not sure how to go about that.

A few months ago there was a video posted here about a diesel enthusiast on youtube that had ordered a large quantity of oil filters. Somehow the DHS found out and they came to his shop.

Obviously the key thing there is these are all direct shipments from China. That stuff wanders through customs. That's, by definition, a lot more on display and federally observed than, say, me shipping a bunch of metal parts to you.

Investigators said they also found silencers and two Glock selector switches that are considered bump stocks, an item that allows weapons to convert to an automatic firing mode and are illegal.

    Uh

I have been seeing ads for "solvent traps" popping up all over. These things look like mono core cans. I was thinking its a trap alright.

I found this pretty amusing. This article was clearly written by someone who has no clue what the hell they’re talking about lol.
I was surprised by the numbers though.

    “ seized 6,269 silencers from Oct. 1, 2019 to Jan. 16, 2020 in the U.S. ”

I don’t know about you but I get a ridiculous amount of ads for these mono core suppressors, I mean fuel filters, coming from china. You have got to be some type of special to buy something like that off a Facebook ad....

But possession of a trap isn't a crime. Making it in to a suppressor without registration is the issue. I guess when did that stop them before

China is the key, and it goes further than solvent traps. The feds have a lot more leeway on monitoring electronic communications originating outside the US, which is to say that they will admit to it and don't mind acting on it.

At what point do these fuel filters become silencers? Kind of like the porn quote "I can't describe pornography, but I know it when I see it".

Those threaded barrels are a crime waiting to happen - luring the unsuspecting into a life of crime. :innocent0
