some things cant be unseen. This is motivation enough to fight just a little bit harder. Basterdizing what makes the platform desirable is not an option. Back to write a few more letters to a few more public officials.

Bell and carlson . ASI makes AR15 thumbhole stocks
Thumbhole stocks are going to be a banned feature, guaranteed. This is one of the reasons people should be extra-worried about a new MD AWB - it'll be the toughest one in the nation when it comes to feature tests, and the usual AWB workarounds are not going to be usable.

FWIW, I am personally a fan of the MonsterMan grip that they use in Cali. Somewhat less absurd looking with a fixed stock.

Howdy, I'm the President & CEO of Exile Machine LLC and the inventor of the Hammerhead CA-Legal AR-15 grip.

CA laws on the AR-15 are complicated, but it breaks down like this:

There are three ways to get an AR in CA:

    1) Registered Assault Weapon - You had it before Y2000, registered it before Y2001. No new registrations so if you don't already have one of these you're not getting one. Can be configured as evilly as any free-state rifle, and will appear quite normal.

The next two ways apply only to receivers that are not on the "List" of evil brands/models, hence they are called Off-List Lowers or OLL:

    2) Fixed Magazine - All the evil features, except you have a 10 round mag limit (for appearance you can use a 30 rounder blocked internally for 10 rounds), magazine can only be removed through the use of a tool, law says a bullet is a tool, hence the various "Bullet Buttons" that have been invented and marketed, each design more ingenious than the last. Despite being limited to 10 round mags these also can look exactly like a free state rifle.

    3) Featureless - no evil features, not even the pistol grip, but you get to use legally-owned large capacity mags and drop them with your finger. There are four products in production right now to address the pistol grip issue, the latest is the Exile Machine Hammerhead Stock Adapter / Grip. These rifles while they can shoot high cap mags currently look somewhat different from a free state rifle, due to the pistol grip issue. Efforts are always underway to try to make these look as close as possible to a free state rifle but it's a challenge to get around the pistol grip. Some shooters are even using adjustable stocks that are riveted or pinned so they can't adjust.

So basically the rifles you see, while a bit different (some would say "fugly") looking, will let the shooter load and fire a high capacity magazine in California. The more evil black rifles that get built in California, no matter what modifications are required to keep them legal, the harder these rifles are to ban in a post Heller and McDonald world. And that makes the gun-grabbing legislators out there wet their pants and gnash their teeth. Which is a result we greatly support.

Some may say it's ugly but the truly ugly thing is that idiot tyrants with no firearms background or training are banning weapons based on looking through picture books and picking out the scariest looking features out of sheer ignorance. And it's happening again.

Here's a customer's youtube video of the product in operation:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqGE9pLCe24&feature=player_embedded

As to the question about mounting the stock inverted, that's what we call Type II configuration. See a complete breakdown of the various configurations here: https://www.exilemachine.net/shop/pages/hammerhead-configurations-2.html .

Please Note: we do not make any claims about the legality of this product in any restricted state besides California, though we have sold the product into all 57 states including New York and District of Columbia.
