Same opinion here. Goofy combination. Much more of a curiosity than a useful tool.

Despite being a "goofy combination", Ruger can't seem to keep these in stock anywhere. Just try to find a RAR in 7.26X39. Go figure. That being said; I just got one and it really handles well! Can't wait to get it to the range.

Ruger Ranch 7.62x39 at the range today; just inside of 1 inch at 100 yards. Shooting Wolf Steel ammo, 123 grain.

You are killing me, dread! I was hoping you aren't going to have that kind of accuracy. Now I want one which will probably end up a bolt gun and an AR, thanks! I have resisted for quite a while. Same way I did with the 6.5cm and now I have 5 and love them all equally, ok, the Bergara's a bit more than the others. The Nikon scope looks great on the rifle and dialing it in using Spot On should be easy and provide you with solid holdovers for longer range shooting. Drop me a note if I can help you out with Spot On in any way. Nice pics and shooting!

100 yard groups ... liking the Golden Tiger in the center 10-shot group and upper right 5-shot group ...

    It’s the scope.

Quit calling all your friends and the media outlets...

Damn fine shooting and nice rifles. Scopes? Meh.
    Thanks, buddy.

Vortex Copperhead 4-12x on the Ruger American Predator in 22 WMR (100 yard target below - Hornady ammo performed the best, esp a 45 gr pistol loading)

and a Nikon Monarch 2-10x (with really pretty glass) on the CZ 527 American Rustic Carbine in 7.62x39

I just put a Nikon ProStaff 2-7X on my RAR. Glass looks better than the ProStaff 3-9X and it's light weight. Although in hindsight I should have got that Leupold that's a full 3 ounces lighter.

Ugg that's disappointing for the Tiger. Last batch I shot was insanely good, almost better than my handloads.

Ive been hearing some grumbling that it may be inconsistent from batch to batch. Still drawing down about 3k I ordered at the same time.

The classy rifle got the classy scope.
If I ever get more serious, I'll ask bman940 how to fully exploit the Monarch's bullet drop reticle (thanks for the offer, bman).

You seemed pretty dialed in with the 3-9x scope based on your initial target, but 2-7x is also a reasonable magnification range for the 7.62x39 cartridge.

Lol, it's probably just me. Personally, I was happy with that 10-shot group at the center of the target at 100 yards. I'll get .223/5.56 just a bit tighter.

Send me a PM when you are ready to dial in your rifle, scope, and ammo. I will be happy to help you out with Nikon's Spot On Ballistic Program. My first suggestion would be to get a chrono on your loads to see what the fps discrepancy is. I have found that the better the ammo the lower the deviation in fps from round to round.

I appreciate ya sir but I’ve already got the vortex and rings in the cart. I’m trying to hold off for no other reason than guilt, as i bought/built 4 Guns in March.

Bought the glass (Vortex diamondback 3X9 and pro 1 inch rings). Probably gonna take a while cuz i used a LEO website but I’m excited I’ll finally be up and running.

I know that this is an old thread, but it seemed to be in the right category for my question.
I have a HOWA mini action 7.62X39 rifle with 20" heavy barrel (1500 series). Using a Warne 7656M mount with 0 moa.
What scope would best suit this rifle for hunting, target shooting, defense, but not necessarily very long distance.?
I have (5) scopes available and hopefully one will be suitable:
    Nikon P-223 - 3-9X40 BDC 600
    Vortex Copperhead CPH-412 - 4-12X44 dead-hold BDC
Vortex Sonora (SON-12) - 4-12x44 dead hold BDC, reticle moa
Nikon Buckmasters II 4-12x40 BDC, SpotOn Technology
    Leupold VX Freedom 1.5-4X20 - 1" PigPlex
If none of these are appropriate, you can say so. I'm not the most knowledgeable scope guy around.
    Thanks!

Check out the Meopta Optika5 3-15x44. Well built European quality that will definitely impress you. A solid value for under $400.

I have one and it would be one of the last rifles I would let go of. Shoots anything and everything out to 400 yards. It's short, light and has a tough as nails mini Mauser action. I bought mine 10 or so years used at the old Hendershots for 450.
